Peter Alliss Shows Hall of Fame Who's #1
By mustang6560 on 5/8/12
Phil Mickelson, Sandy Lyle, Hollis Stacy, Dan Jenkins, and Peter Alliss were inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame last night (you can read their career resumes here).
There were several notable moments during the 2012 induction ceremony, but the moment that will be remembered for ceremonies to come happened during Peter Alliss' speech.
So it's time to‑‑ I could waffle on for another four or five hours. I just want to say this: I think of it often because I did leave school early. I was quite bright, but I remember my last report which was sent home. We had a headmistress that my modest school was called cross by house school. She was a Mrs.Violet Weymouth, and she was a short Welsh woman. She always had a cigarette dangling out of her mouth and the smoke used to trickle up here, and you could see where the smoke went. There was sort of a brown line up there. But she was‑‑ you didn't mess about with Mrs. Weymouth, I can tell you that. I'm always staggered today where I read that children go to school and beat up the teachers. They wouldn't have done that in my day, I'll tell you. But I remember the last report she sent back to my parents, and it went something like this: Peter does have a brain, but he's rather loathe to use it. His only interests appear to be the game of golf and Violet Pretty, a girl I liked. She never knew about Iris Baker, but they were the two that uced me to some of the ways of the world, for which I'll be eternally grateful. And although we were very young, I wish to God we could do it today. It's amazing (and a little surprising) that 70 years and millions of dollars in the bank later, Peter still
I won't say he embarrassed himself by giving Mrs. Weymouth the bird, but he came too close for comfort.

There's quite a few people in my life that have had an influence on it, even if I didn't like what I had to hear and even though it made me better, I'd still like to flip em the bird, partly because of their methods and because they were right. I always enjoyed Peter Alliss commentary when ABC had golf, wish somebody else had picked him up. I had heard that the comment, "Hit it Alice", was actually started by him when he left a putt short and muttered out loud, "Why don't you hit it Alliss", it was overheard and then the rest is history

kinda weak move. Digital diss to a dead woman who actually cared?
No class at all.
And what the hell is "uced"?
The improvements in my character have been a result of deep introspection and occasional honest critique by those who've cared about me. And maybe some others who didn't.
embarrassed himself? To close for whose comfort? You are kidding right? Golf needs a lot more of this. Sounds to me like he was having fun and making a joke. The guy sounds pretty cool to me.
Golf can be so up tight and stuffy. I think a lot of golfers, like people in general, are like this, but we so rarely see it because people are afraid of offending something. It's boring, and it's one reasons why golf is not "relevant" to the masses.
P.S. If I were a 70 year old millionaire being inducted into the hall of fame I wouldn't be worried about your comfort :)
This is awesome.

Geez...........Lighten up why don't you. If you payed attention to the audience reaction it was by far the best line of the night. Second place went to Dan Jenkins with his tombstone line " I knew this would happen"
