![]() Rhein Gibson sets unofficial scoring record By mustang6560 on 5/22/12
The lowest 18-hole score ever recorded on the PGA Tour is 59, and it was carded five times by five different professional golfers - Al Geiberger ('77), Chip Beck ('91), David Duval ('99), Paul Goydos ('10), and Stuart Appleby ('10).
And while 59 is still the official record on the PGA Tour, it is no longer the benchmark. Rhein Gibson, an Australian born golfer who is currently playing on the Golfweek's National Pro Tour, broke the 59 barrier a couple of weeks during a practice round with a couple of friends. The former Oklahoma Christian University alum shot an unbelievable 16-under-par 55 at River Oaks Golf Club in Edmond, Oklahoma. It is possible to believe that the magnitude of this achievement will never set in for those who were a part of it. According to the Guinness World Record's book, 16 under par 55 is the lowest round ever recorded on a regulation eighteen hole course. In a game in which records are honored and statistics are kept for centuries, this one round stands alone. Rhein Gibson, the mini-tour player from Australia has played the greatest round of golf in the history of the game.I know I'm a little late to the party on this one, however, two users (thanks birdieXris and The Mustache Ride) sent me links to the story so I decided to post it in case there is someone out there in cyberspace who did not hear about Rhein's incredible 55 (and to show the Tip Your Editor link works!). read more Image via Reddit Did I miss something? River Oaks has a 72.8 usga rating and 132 slope @6700 yards. I believe that rates higher than all of the courses where 59 was shot. Great accomplishment. 5/22/12
I emailed you about that on May 18th and get no credit! bologna Nate! 55 is about as perfect as you can get in golf. 5/22/12
@Banker85- LOL. I don't have an email from you about Rhein's 55. But, thank you too! 5/22/12
Impressive except he was playing from the ladies tees......just kidding. 5/22/12
Looks like you missed a word. "Rhein Gibson, an Australian born golfer who is currently playing on the Golfweek's National Pro Tour, broke the 59 barrier a couple of weeks 5/22/12
Imagine how his playing partner Munson feels after shooting a 69 and still getting whooped by 14 strokes. 5/22/12
I'd like to challenge him to an Original Xbox version of Tiger Woods PGA tour 2004. Then we'll see what he's really got. Seriously though, this is crazy. I couldn't imagine being a witness to such an event. 5/23/12
@srogers13: Couldn't be "player" since he did not have an 11 on the 17th hole after hitting an armadillo and then having a fist fight with a foursome that accused him of hitting into them. 5/25/12
