A spokesperson for the USGA Museum confirmed that the museum was robbed earlier this morning and two "artifacts" were stolen. One of the artifacts was the U.S. Amateur trophy and the other was a replica of Ben Hogan's 1953 Hickock Belt award.
The U.S. Amateur trophy, which was created in 1926 (after the original trophy was destroyed by a fire in 1925 at East Lake CC in Atlanta) and retired in 1992, and a replica of Ben Hogan's 1953 Hickock Belt award, which the USGA acquired from the late Hogan's estate in 1998 and has been on display since 1999, were stolen, the USGA confirmed.I can't believe someone (or two) would have the nerve to use the day of my birth for evil, especially related to golf!
