Rory McIlroy Wins Honda Classic
By mustang6560 on 3/5/12
Rory McIlroy captured his third career PGA Tour victory yesterday at the Honda Classic and with the win Sunday, he ascended to the highest perch in golf - the coveted world number one ranking.
"It was always a dream of mine to become the world No. 1 and the best player in the world or whatever you want to call it," McIlroy said. "But I didn't know what I would be able to get here this quickly. ... Hopefully, I can hold onto it for a little longer."
My brother called me yesterday ahead of Tiger Woods' birdie-eagle finish at PGA National to find out if I was following the leaderboard. As a huge Tiger fan, he wanted to make sure I witnessed Tiger's greatest Sunday comeback ever. Unfortunately for my brother, Tiger's final round 62 was a day late and a dollar short.

I was happy to see Rory keep calm and carry on, especially when he knew Tiger was surging in front of him. Now that Rory is number one in the world, I wonder how long he'll stay there. A month? A year? Multiple years? If I was a betting man (which I am), I would be willing to bet he'll remain in the top spot for two years. He's found an extra gear as of late and I expect more good things from the 22-year-old in the coming months including a major championship.

Luke Donald's reign of terror is over. I mean who wants to live in a golf world where the number one player cannot hit a 300 yard three wood.

If Rory manages to hang on to the #1 ranking for several years, I hope he starts wins 4-5 times a year and adds another Major. It is hard to wrap my head around a system that puts so much emphasis on "Top Tens" and good finishes in Majors. We need a #1 player to go out there and win half a dozen times with a Major or two.

I like how the article is about Rory except the last 2 out of 3 paragraphs are about Tiger.

Rory seems like a good kid. He definitely has taken his fitness to a new level. This week hopefully will be great with Rors, Tiger, Phil, etc. at the Cadillac!!! Should be fun!!!

Definitely the most talented #1 in the world since Tiger lost it. These other guys (Kaymer, Westwood, Donald) were never the real deal. Let's see if this one has the mental fortitude to keep the crown. 'Hope' isn't going to cut it.

Man, when Tiger dropped that eagle on 18 all I wanted to see was a Rory semi collapse and the playoff begin.
