The course opened with a Willie Watson design in 1925 and hosted the San Francisco Open until 1969, when the PGA Tour abandoned the course due to deteriorating conditions and obsolete facilities. After the course was used as a parking lot for the 1998 men's U.S. Open at nearby Olympic, former USGA president Sandy Tatum set out the raise funds to restore Harding Park to its former glory. Many arguments, legal wrangling, and several changes of management ensued before the course re-opened on August 22, 2003.

Since then, it has hosted the 2005 WGC-American Express (Tiger Woods over John Daly in a playoff), the 2009 Presidents Cup (U.S.), and the 2010 Schwab Cup Championship (John Cook).

The chief features here are the huge Monterey Cypress trees and nearby Lake Merced. Also here is the popular 9-hole executive-length Fleming Golf Course and an all-season practice area with TourTurf™ surfaces. The First Tee of San Francisco is also based here.

Obviously this course is sweet, it is a TPC course, after all. Great value if you're an SF resident. I'd play here everyday if I didn't have a job to go to :P

Beautiful course, but its not in the greatest shape, and there's a gun range nearby that is incredibly annoying.

Absolutely wonderful traditional style course. Each hole slightly undulates and curves, and there are no blind shots. Each hole is perfectly framed by cypress pine trees. There are no carts allowed on the fairways (except for handicap) so the fairways and rough always look great. The AMEX was here in '05 (Tiger won), and the PRESIDENT'S CUP will be here in '09. Holes 13 through 18 border Lake Merced and are 6 very outstanding consecutive holes.

Beautiful course, tough. Tour event there in 2005. Great deal for SF City residents.
