When you think of Arnold Palmer you think of a champion golfer, a gentlemen with integrity and class who took the game of golf to new levels of success. Greatly blessed with a God given talent to play the game of golf, Palmer still approached the game with a workman like attitude. His dedication to his craft through practice and improvement made him the standard of excellence that we still recognize today. Although Arnold Palmer has retried from playing the game of golf professionally- we are still able to enjoy his greatness through his ever growing body of golf designs. Oak Valley Golf Club located in Advance NC is a example of Palmer's creatve powers and joy for the game of golf. I had the extreme pleasure of playing the Oak Valley course on July/24/2007 and was simply amazed at the courses beauty. The fairways and greens are manicured to the highest quality. In fact Oak Valleys fairways are better than some other golf courses greens. The Oak Valley staff are very friendly, informative and pleasant- even taking time to go over the layout of the course. Everything about this golf course is first class from the Palmer design down to the cleanliness of the golf carts. Speaking of the Palmer course design, seldom will you find a course more challenging yet as enjoyable as Oak Valley. Palmer forces you on each hole to think and "pick your posion" before teeing off. For example many of the par 4's are short compared to todays standards- however these same par 4's are still deadly with sand traps and beautiful streams and marshes defending its' fairways. The enjoyment comes in the risk/reward of challenging these well protected fairways. A good drive could lead to a birdie, while a slightly pulled tee shot could result in a triple bogey. It is truely a course that will create a large range of emotions but my promise to you is you will leave this course feeling fully tested and better as a golfer. So when the time comes when to take your golf game to the next level, look no further than Oak Valley. Could there truely be anything better than walking on a course that Palmer built?
