Francisco Blvd Pacifica, CA 94044 www.SharpParkGC.com 650.359.3380 This Alister Mackenzie course (1931) might be in danger of closing; some environmentalist protesters are trying to have the course shuttered and used for open space. The course has survived onslaughts from nature (1930s-era storms destroyed some holes) and from the routing of Highway 1 through the parking lot the 1960s, both of which caused several holes to be rerouted. In good weather, this one of the nicest public courses in the Bay Area. Wide fairways make it a forgiving course for those of us not blessed with pinpoint accuracy, but there's plenty of challenge. Greens are a little bare in spots, but overall condition is pretty good. To basically repeat what HP said. This MacKenize design is a must play in the bay area, but it could a little more love from the city. By far one of the most beautiful couses I've ever played. Sharp Park is an absolutely beautiful course with a great layout that's in usually horrible shape. What a shame!!! If only the money were around to give it the Harding Park makeover....this course would be world class like it's brother in the city. The fairways are lined with cypress pines. There is a large natural lake with beautiful cattail grass, and it's next to the ocean (you don't get easy ocean views, but you can hear the waves crashing loudly on hole 16). The course was originally designed by Alister MacKenzie (you know...of Augusta and Cypress Point fame). Even though the course is not always in the best of shape, it's always a pleasure to play because of it's beauty. Not a bad course, with a great location and layout, but the regular morning crowd plays very aggressively - too quick for this beginner. Our twosome had to leave after 9 holes because we weren't going to finish in the sub-4 hours expected of us. Mark, the starter, was very decent about it and advised us to come back in the afternoon when the pace is much more relaxed, and refunded us half our green fees. Often too waterlogged to play a decent game. Maintenance is poor. It's too bad because the golf course could have been a real beaut. Some say it used to be great, but maybe when we get ten million to invest again it will be again. Ha! It's pretty cheap though. Your Review
