This public course opened in the 1930s with nine holes, while architect Toyo Shirai designed the second nine that opened in 1961. This is the only municipal golf course on Kauai and has hosted three USGA Amateur Public Links Championships.

The course has a no-frills pro shop, locker room and grill. The resident ("kama'aina") rate is $15 weekdays and $20 weekends, so the course is very popular with the locals.

The public is welcome, although credit cards are not accepted. The non-resident walking rates are $48 weekdays and $60 weekends.
