420 West St Hyde Park, MA 02136-1399 www.CityOfBoston.gov/golf/GWG... 617.361.2300 Here is a rarity - a Donald Ross-designed course that is open to the public. Ross did the design in the late 1920s, but the project was abandoned in 1929 due to the Great Depression. Construction began again in 1932 as a WPA project; by the time the course opened in 1938, more than $1 million had been spent. The course is named for George Wright, a baseball HOFer and an original member of the Cincinnati Reds; Wright is credited by some as having helped introduce golf to the Boston area around the turn of the century. This is probably to most unique muni-course I have ever played. The old buildings and stonework dating back probably 100 years makes this an very interesting place to play. My first Donald Ross (I think) was a great experience. What the course lacked in amenities it made up for in character. This is a great track. A true Donald Ross design that is being returned to health by new Superintendent after years of neglect. Lots of blind shots, tricky greens, and narrow fairways. Over the last 5 years, the greens have been expanded and roll very true, drainage is no longer an issue, bunkers are being replaced and added, and trees are being taken down. If you haven't played a Donald Ross course yet, this is the place to play. Your Review
