Aberdeen Golf Club

Aberdeen has a wide variety of shot requirements; from demands on length to the need for precision, it also favors shaped shots to landing areas and into greens. As on the actual links courses, changing winds always seem to be a factor. The zoysiagrass fairways are trimmed closely to allow running shots, and the bentgrass greens are maintained in a firm condition in an attempt to replicate playing conditions found on the true links courses.

The Scottish links style course is close in some respects, like the rough being darn near straw-thickness.

However, the course was in very, very poor shape. Some of the greens were extremely quick - almost bald with nothing but aeration lines in them, others looked like they hadn't been cut in days. Some of the greens had large sections of sod-patching that had been poorly installed.

I cannot imagine why this course is over $40 to play - even on weekends. The grounds-keeping needs to step up 2 or 3 notches before that price is even close to a good value. The "driving range" is a giant patch of weeds and mud, with no distance markers, no pins to shoot at, and the entire clubhouse is surrounded by half-completed construction/landscaping projects.

Very, very dissapointed with my first trip to this golf course. Will definitely stop 1 mile short next time and play Pevely Farms instead.
