Today I hit a shot into a lateral hazard between the stakes and the water. I mistakenly grounded the end of the golf club(the grip end)in the hazard. Am I in breach of rule 13-2? Edit-rule acually is 13-4

Yes, there is a little known rule 225.345 that states that if you swing the club from the wrong end, there is a 6 stroke penalty Rolling Eyes

And now for the real answer Very Happy

13-2 talks about "mproving Lie, Area of Intended Stance or Swing, or Line of Play". That has little to do with you touching the ground in a hazard.

Rule 13-4 states your club cannot touch the water or ground except when trying to prevent falling (and marking and measuring etc). It sounds, however, that was not the case (the keywords being "accidentally" and "let it touch the ground").

So if my club touches the ground in the hazard because I'd rather take a two-stroke penalty than fall on my face, it's not actually a two-stroke penalty?

Yes, this has happened to me from time to time.

Yes. Just don't misuse it like Michelle Wie tried earlier this year.

I voted yes, because I don't believe you did it accidentally.

Do you know what that white stuff in the middle of a pile of chicken poop is?... Why yes, it's chicken poop! The rule says you can't ground your club in a hazard. Both ends of the golf club are still a golf club. It's a golf club from one end to the other.

I can't say that I've ever seen chicken poop before.

Ah, I remember cleaning out the coop while chewing gum. Once, I lost my gum while blowing a bubble but the good news is I thought I found it ..... three times!

Armand

I'm kidding about the gum ... I wish I was kidding about cleaning the coop, but I've been there too many times!
