My Driver had been banished from playing golf for a good couple of months due to a high slice that used to land 2 fairways away on the really bad ones. It would normally be a 300 yard drive, i.e. 200 forward and 100 right. My irons on the other hand have always had a draw.

When playing Driver with the ball aligned inside my left instep I had a uncontrollable tendency to reach for the ball and hence leave the club face open at impact. I've now changed to teeing the ball up in the center of my stance which has corrected the problem.

I now hit a pretty consistent draw and have got most of that side ways length going forward. My Driver is now allowed to accompany me on the golf course again. Hopefully this may help some of you who are fighting the fight.

I had that same affliction when I first started playing. So much so, that I would line up and aim 45 degrees to the left. It would blow people away to see my shot go way out of bounds to the left and turn back and land in the fairway. People would always comment "if you could get that bananna straightened out, you'd hit it a lot farther" I was so consistant with it that I got my first hole in one by aiming way left. Then, like you said, I started moving the ball back in my stance and the slice went away. The bad thing is now, when a big slice would come in handy for a dogleg right, I can't make it do that.

I use to have a bad slice because I would come across the ball and put a wicked spin on it. Now I have learned to keep my right elbow tucked in so my first move is with my torso not my shoulders. I put a headcover under my arm and hit what seemed like 10,000 golf balls on the range. I still occasionally fling out my elbow and come across but for the most part its tucked in all snug like a bug in a rug. Very Happy

If you're interested in adjusting your setup to the traditional ball position I've got something for you to try.

Take note of your shoulder position on your setup. Keeping all other parts of the body still, turn your shoulders open and then closed. Notice that when your shoulders are closed, that your right arm gets closer to and behind your body.

A closed shoulder line represents the club coming from the inside, an open shoulder line represents the club coming from the outside.

Try some swings in the living room or on the range with your feet on the target line or slightly open, and your shoulders closed. You may notice that it is much easier to swing the club down from the inside when you start with your shoulders closed.

That's where one of my problems was with all my clubs. My shoulders were open to the line. I would constantly come outside in a little.

@ sepfeiff

Thanks for the tip and I'll give it a try the next time my driver plays up (I'm sure it will be soon)
