I'm thinking of setting up a net in my garage for the oncoming winter, but with a twist.

I want something that's going to last, so I'm looking at making a frame that can be dropped from the ceiling and using heavy duty (ie professional) netting.

The ceiling is about 12' high and I have close to 10' in width to play with.

Good idea or bad? Any improvements you would suggest...with the exception of getting monitoring software?

Sounds like an excellent idea. As long as you have clearance for a complete swing, do it! I thought of something similar but the ceiling is too low. Actually it's the garage door opener that is in the way.

I would consider trying to build it so that you can fold the uprights against the crossbar, so that you minimize the amount of height you are losing in the garage.

Another option would be to forgo the frame completely, and just have a big net that you can raise and lower as needed. Maybe just have an upper crossbar for support, so that it doesn't sag in the middle.

Mjaber,

I'm thinking of a partial frame. A rear crossbar and short forward facing end pieces for a bit of depth. 10' wide and maybe 3' deep would work quite well I think.

I'd have it on a pulley so it can go to the top of the ceiling, which is about 15' high.

I wonder what it would cost to install one of those projection screens like the big golf stores have, where you hit the ball against a projected picture of a fairway and it continues to fly in the picture.

I think I'd be killed first!! Cheapest screen I could find in a quick search was $299.

@birdie... my wife dragged me to a "Home & Garden" show last year. She didn't realize there would be a display about backyard putting greens. She saw the booth and said "Oh no." I started poking around, and she followed. She actually saw one SHE liked. It had a little fountain, and other things that made it more of a feature than just a putting green.
