You'll be mad surprised at how strong yoga actually makes you. If i didn't go through it, i'd have never believed it myself. Good luck.

I've heard swimming is really good for the core endurance and joints. Don't know of anyone who has tried it for golf improvement.

weight loss update.
weighed in last night, and I have lost 11 pounds in 2 weeks. I'm really excited to see such great results. |
Way to go!! I'm trying to loose at least another 20 pounds. Keep up the good work. It helps with the golf.

| On the golf note, I played last saturday and was +3 through my first nine holes. However, I blew up 3 holes in my second 9 and ended up shooting 92. The best news for me was that I didn't feel fatigued at all during the round, which is new for me. |
When ever I've had a great first 9 I've always blown up on the back 9. I know its because of my lack of fitness and inablity to keep my mind focused on the game. which I belive is also do to a lack of fitness.
Any way, keep up the good work! |

In addition to rotational core exercises and flexibility. I would focus on lower body strength, shoulder strength (large muscles AND stabilizers) and definitely don't overlook anti-rotation and stability based core work - think plank and side bridge moves.

I came across a new Golf Centric Home Gym that looks really interesting. Its called the Extra 20 Yards and combines weight-lifting with the golf swing training.
The web site is http://www.extra-yards.com/
Wonder if anyone has seen it or tried it yet?

I haven't tried it, but I very strongly recommend that you DON'T buy that. $395 can get you so much more effective training. First of all, you can do probably all of those moves at just about any gym for $20-30 a month. I also think that type of movement is likely to cause you to be more injury prone than you might imagine.
Just as importantly, you can get yourself far more functional and healthy strength using better, less expensive tools.
I highly recommend you visit http://www.trxtraining.com for really good equipment with dozens of quality videos and dvds, a great blog+forum community, and the ability to find hundreds of relevant youtube videos to help you stay focused.
The TRX suspension trainer is the best of it's kind IMO and the Rip Trainer will add more distance to your shots than any other piece of equipment I can think of. You could get both of these tools for the price of that 'extra-yards' junk and find yourself much healthier, stronger, and faster.

Funny, I didn't think the price was too bad considering the cost of home gyms and such.... about the same as a new driver.
Thanks though I will definitely checkout your suggestions.

I do that exact same thing in the gym on one of the machines that they have there. On top of that, i adjust the spool lower or higher and do my entire range, not just pulling down from the top. Gimmick for whoever has $395 to throw away. If you're going to spend that kind of money, at least get a Total gym. Its more versatile and will actually keep you in better shape.

Here's a cool new cardio+strength TRX workout from Coach Dos (one of the biggest names in strength and conditioning)

This should give you an idea of how real usable strength is created vs how people move metal around in the gym. This is the type of work athletes and soldiers do, because they train to perform for their paycheck or even their lives.
