For as long as I've played golf I've never taken my equipment seriously. What I mean is, I've always played hand-me-downs and clones. The only clubs I ever bought were big bertha clones from abut 15 years ago. I figured I wasn't any good so why spend a ton of money on equipment and balls. Just play the cheap stuff til I get better. The problem was I never got that much better.

Now that I'm a 40something guy with a little extra money (just paid off the house, woo hoo!) and joined a country club I decided it was time to finally treat myself to some decent sticks. We had a demo day at our club a couple months back and I hit the newest Taylormade's, Calloway's, Pings, and Adams. I really hit the Adams well and liked the balance and weight of the clubs.

So last week I bought a set of Adams A7OS irons and a Cleveland DST driver and matching 3 wood.

Wow, Captain Obvious here but I've already taken 5 strokes off my last two rounds. I'm a guy that hit around 100 for years and occasionally got into the low 90's. And now I've hit 89 and 88 in back to back rounds

The Cleveland DST driver and fairway wood are freak'n awesome and a great value too. I'm straighter more often and when I hit it bad it's a lot more forgiving. My first outing I hit a beautiful straight down the gut drive on a par 5, then hit the fairway wood another 230+ to the green. I don't know that I've ever been on a par 5 in two before.

I now have the right club from 150 to 230. The Adams hybrids are just the ticket for me. I hit an errant but forgiving short drive last night, then pulled our the Adams 4 hybrid and knocked it 200 uphill to the green.

Heck, I've picked up distance and accuracy on all my irons. I went with "regular" steel shafts per advice from my pro and it was the right choice for me. I've always been fairly confident in my 7 thru pitching wedge but now I'm confident with all my clubs.

I think I might actually learn to like the game.

Cheers,
Scott

Your story sounds a lot like me. I am a bit older than you and up until 8 years ago hit all off brand stuff. Not that there is much wrong with that, but I would not spend any money on my golf because I really just played when I had to play.

Well 8 years ago I go fitted for a set of KZG irons (3-PW, AW, and 56*) and saw an immediate improvement in my game. Had the correct shafts (TT X100) for my swing that were 1" over and the irons were 1* up. I kept hitting my clone driver and fairway club and just plugged along.

I still hit the KZG irons, only thing I have ever had to do is a couple of times I had the grips changed.

Well, 2 months ago I decided to go to the local golf shop, questioned the guy about his skill/experience in fitting for a driver. I spent and hour and a half with him, and with his changing of various heads and various types of shafts (I don't know that much about it) at different weights, etc, The best fit for me was a Cleveland Launcher DST 9.5* with some sort of Fujikara (spelling) shaft in a stiff and some other info about the shaft that i did not understand.

I hit the driver very well, went to the range and was very satisfied. I picked up about 15+ yards of carry and about 20+ yards total with this driver.

I later bought a Cleveland Launcher DST FW 15*, a 3h and a 4h all with SFlex. I took my 3 and 4 iron out of the bag because I never really hit them, they just took up space. I broke 90 on my last round and now I can't wait to get the next opportunity to play.

Maybe it is not the clubs, but the fact that they look good, feel good, and make me feel good has made me a little better at a game I am learning to enjoy.
