I recently became afflicted with the golf "disease", and have had a back surgery when I was twenty. I have had very little problems with back pain since.....until recently. I had an MRI wich revealed 2 herniated discs in the lumbar spine. I am completely devestated because I have been told I should not play golf anymore. I have been doing PT since I found out and my pain is much more tolerable. I welcome any light to medium exercises that might increase the likelyhood of getting back to the links. Is there anyone who has similair diagnoses and still play? Any suggestions?
Seriously bummed!

Sorry to hear about your woes....but it may be possible to retool your swing to a more controlled swing that limits your range of motion..........

but since you've already had back surgery..........I would not do anything outside the advice of a professional doctor or sports therapist.

Golf is a great game, but your quality of life should be more important to you. Seek out some 2nd opinions with qualified Sports Medicine Clinics that specialize in Golf health.

Given half a chance, doctors will KILL you. I was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease more than ten years ago. I have 4 herniations right now and play at least 5 rounds per week. Stretching and not OVERswinging have been my key. Avoid carrying a bag that is too heavy if you walk. Switch arms you carry the bag on. As far as excercises, reverse sit-ups (using an incline board at the gym). The idea though with herniations is to develop an elongated torso, extending the spine to alleviate the pinching action of the herniations. F?&K IT. Who wants pie?
