This is intended as a discussion point for the Wedge Guy's articles. I know the comments section is there but you don't get notifications if anyone replies (like you do with the What did you shoot today?' thread) so any discussion tends to die off.

Used this thread anytime for ANY of Terry's articles, not just the one published last Friday.

So, let me start (er, with the one from last Friday!)

After a round of 109 just over a week ago I came away angry and slightly depressed. I was hitting the ball fat...a LOT...but was unable to work out why (which is what really annoyed me).

It took me about a week to realise that it was probably due to the old 'My real swing feels nothing like my practice swing' dilemma. Specifically, there was no weight transfer.

Then, as if by magic, along came Terry's article 'Pushing Your Weight Around'. I think it struck a note, so I went to my local practice area and tried it out as clearly I need some kind of trigger.

The results suggest this just might be what I need.

It's just a nice, simple move to ghet the whole swing started in the correct order. Nice one, Terry. Thank you.

Hang in there buddy. The "practice swing feels nothing like real" is like one of the major difficulties of hitting a ball. Seven years in I'm still trying to sort it out. So much changes once we step up to the ball--setup might be out of whack, too many thoughts about consequences take over the mind, etc...all these things that distract from the simple objective of "swing it".

About starting the downswing, I've heard it described as crushing a bug under your left heel. I've used that a few times, it's a pretty good cue.

Terry's article came in a timely manner, however i had addressed this issue with my golftec guy the week prior. My weight was not moving correctly and while my lower body was starting the swing, it was just not working in sync with the rest of my body. I got a few drills and have started working on shifting my weight back onto my right side better.

SUPERB timing on my part. I start this topic just in time for Terry taking a week off for a trade show.

I disagree with Terry on quite a few things, but I've learned that the reason for that is simply because there is more than one way to golf properly.

His article on fixing a slice was kind of disturbing to me because there are literally dozens of reasons why someone could be slicing. I have a checklist of seven things that I tend to do wrong when my slice pops up. They range from grip to not keeping my left shoulder down through the swing. Needless to say, I don't put much stock into his playing tips.

However, when it comes to club manufacturing, the guy knows his stuff possibly better than anyone I've ever talked to. In particular, I love his articles comparing blade irons to cavity backs. I've switched to blades because of the fact that when I hit the ball solid, it goes exactly where I want it to go. The biggest flaw in my game right now is hitting irons, and I think that learning how to hit blades properly will improve that a great deal.

I'm with Bryan K.

I'd love if he would spend a little more time explaining what goes into building a club, how he got into it, advice for people who might wnat to try it themselves.

I think he spends too much time talking about the golf swing, and not enough about the golf club.

Not so much what did I, as what didn't I.

With reference to Terry's 'Pushing Your Weight Around' article, I had a lesson the other night and the feeling my instructor had me trying for was my left shoulder going over, or even past, my left foot.

This seemed to work more for me than did Terry's suggestion of moving the left rear pocket towards the left heel.
