So yea, it's not for a while, but I'm trying to plan my World am trip. Here's the thing - trying to figure out whether i want to drive or fly. Flying is great. couple hours and you're there, but for real --- after tickets, bags and car rental i'm looking at like $400 bucks. If i drove, it's 10 hours in a car each way and maybe like $120 bucks in gas. I'm down with that. Might even want to offset it by carpooling. Question is - would anybody else be down with that. I figure i have room for 3 other people who pack light and don't have huge staff bags.... technically.
I sitll haven't decided officially if i'm going to make it this year, but it'll certainly help doing it this way.

Drive. You can take a lot more than 14 clubs.
And, having your vehicle as a traveling store room for all your golf equipment, gear and clothing, can be quite convenient. Whenever I drive to a golf destination, I will take many alternate clubs, along with extras of all else golf related. It's comforting to know I will likely have everything I need (and a lot of stuff I don't) stored right with me, just in case. It's like having my own little private pro shop with me everywhere I go.
The ten hours driving will likely be a lot more relaxing than the hassle of flying and rushing and dealing with the masses.

Having done ALOT of travelling for work over the years, you're statement is not entirely accurate. If you factor in the recommended arrival time of 2 hours before the flight, travel time to the airport, parking, shuttle buses, waiting for checked bags, you're probably closer to 6 or 7 hours. Add the predictable 30-45 minute tarmac delay on each side, and your 2 hour flight takes almost as long as your 10 hour drive.
I have gotten to the point, when travelling, if I can drive it in a day, I do it. I've driven as far as Cincinatti, from northeastern MA (about 15 hours). It's more relaxing to me to just go. I don't have to worry about my flight being delayed or cancelled, how much (or how little) to pack, space for my carry-on, fighting for an arm-rest, the seat in front of me being reclined, lost bags, damaged bags, "re-organized" golf bag, etc.
I say you drive. You'll spend a whole lot less on gas then you will on the flight, and I think it will be a much less frustrating trip. Plus, you can stop along the way at a tourist trap or 2. They can be fun.

Yea i was thinking about that. Maybe starting really early and stopping off for a round of golf on the way down, or splitting the trip into two 5 hour jaunts. I dunno. It'll make for a long couple days but it'll still be fun. Or maybe doing that on the drive back since i'll have saturday and sunday both times. Leave friday night, drive 5 hours or whatever to a cheap hotel. Get up the next day, play 18 somewhere and then drive the rest. Do the same thing at the end of the week.

Driving sounds like what I would do. If I lived along your travel path I'd offer to hook up for a round mid-way, but that is not the case sorry. Maybe I'll see you at World Am. Haven't decided if I'm going, but 50-50%. Plenty of time to decide.

A couple of years back my son went off to college in SC about an hour out of Myrtle Beach, We drove him down from Cape Cod over two days making about 6 to 8 hours a day. Splitting the trip in two was much more relaxing, easier on the body too. Instead of putting the mileage on my own car (and needing a little more room) I rented a big Lincoln for the trip. Definitely the way to go. Big, Comfortable, Plenty of room for our stuff and the mileage wasn't that bad either.

Well, i think, unless something really really awesome happens soon, i'm not going to make the WAHC this year. I'm just going to stay up here and play more local tournaments. With house purchase, and wedding this year, i just don't have it all in the budget. We'll see though. Tax return didn't come back yet

Is there a minimum age? My daughter will be 2 on 8/31, and I was thinking it might be a nice daddy/daughter trip...
