How about this one to start the topic off. Most mobile golf applications nowadays only have visuals, how far it is to front, middle, back of green, but consider this it's a pain in the backside retrieving your phone and looking at the screen when it could talk to you. "The distance to the pin is..."then it would suggest a club to take, "Please select a 7 iron" and with pre programmed individual shot lengths per club that it would record in memory getting down in par or minus could be a breeze.Just one of my ideas i have stored in my head over the past few years. If you have any wierd and wonderful ideas then reply to this post.

If you develop that idea a little further you won't even have to go to the golf course. You can just send your phone. It can play for you too.

I like the idea a lot. I suspect the others in my foursome might not, though:)

We have cars now that can parallel park themselves. Why can't we get a golf cart with a club sticking out the side so that all we are required to do is drive it up next to the ball and push a button. Sure would take a lot of exertion out of the game that could be put to use drinking beer.

With some of the golf cart drivers and their alcohol levels, maybe we need golf carts that drive themselves
One playing partner told me about this accident he had where he broke someones leg.
I was a little concerned after that.
I keep my distances on a notepad on my phone, but its because i am still changing them all the time.
GPS was an eye opener, some tools might be nice, but then you have to regulate them in competition.

One of my co-workers (a programmer) looked at my nRange program a few days ago and decided it would take him about two hours to change it so that it had a text-to-voice feature.

We need a device that is tied into the GPS program and senses what club you are pulling out of the bag. The program would review your prior scoring history against the upcoming shot and then shout at you, "PUT THAT 3-WOOD BACK IN THE BAG AND USE A WEDGE TO LAY-UP TO THE 100 YARD MARKER!!!"

I can hear it. It's Gilbert Godfried's voice, isn't it?

SkyGolf were working on something similar using, I think, RFID tags that you put on your clubs. The Skycaddie could then suggest clubs for a given distance. Looks like the idea died in the arse though, because I couldn't find anything on their website.

I would think cost would be a major factor in dropping that idea.
I think anything that's going to "suggest" a club for you is going to need a lot of historical data to work from. Since everybody hits clubs different lengths, you would need to start logging what club you used, and the start and end points. After a few rounds, it might start getting them right, but I think it would probably take at least a season to get truly accurate data.
