Just 9 holes on my home course yesterday: 48. Yaicks. Just not hitting the fairway strokes nicely. Bad lies all around - the grass just doesn't carry the weight of the ball and thus everything in the fairway is hit from the mud. It's great to be back on the course though Very Happy.

Shot 90 on Saturday, Mid 30's temps, wind was howling at a steady 30 with gusts over 40. On the upside however, even with it being winter conditions, I have noticed some changes I made at the end of last year starting to repeat. In five rounds this winter I have hit over 40% of my FW's and had better than 80% playable drives, which is better than my stats at the close of 2011. With any luck it will continue to improve.

Today I ventured out to Queens and met up with oob user Andrew aka 'asong77' for twelve holes at Douglaston Park GC. My first time there, a nice little course, already looking forward to playing it again.

To start the day I embarrassed myself by going triple/double/double/double. At some point oob user asong77 even ribbed me for my crapulence considering I'm supposedly single-digit golfer. I must have looked like a blind man putting out there. These were some real greens with some real roll yet there was me whacking the ball as if I was playing on shag carpet greens. I even started to think to myself Man, my game does not travel well. But I never stopped trusting my game and soon I resembled a golfer again and played the last eight holes of the day at a respectable +3.

The wind was blasting all day. On the ninth hole, 175y par 3 a steady gust was blowing hard right to left and the pin tucked hard right. I managed to hard cut a 4i right up against the wind--a dead straight frozen rope, negating all the wind, right at the flag. Very cool shot, oob user asong77 will attest.

For me golf is something to be enjoyed. If the weather is less than favorable I don't bother with it. Too hot or too cold is no fun, so why do that? I started a round Saturday 66 degrees and no wind, but it started a light mist of rain so I got a rain check.

I dunno...we had about two weeks last summer where the heat index was in the 130's (topped out at 139, which ended up being the highest in the us for the year), and I did NOT like being out there at all. You know where I was on the day the heat index was 139? In a bunker trying to figure out why it was so much hotter in the sand than in the fairway. I actually walked off the course that day. It was way too much work to lift a club let alone swing one. I still got in four holes. I hit that shot out of the bunker, and I just didn't want to go after it. I tried to keep myself hydrated by drinking lots of water, but I just got too full.

119 and it was ugly. Too ugly to blame it on the first time I'd played that course. Driving was pretty awful, fairway shots inconsistent to awful. Only my short (chipping) and putting game was good.

Frankly, I'm fed up...and man my family are getting it from this grumpy bear! Sad

For you, maybe. We're in the middle of a blizzard at the moment.

Sounds like me after my last round. I was in a craptastic mood for the rest of the day and into the next.

Hah! Well, who knows, maybe one day we can be grumpy around the golf course together!

Had a lesson tonight and Teach spotted something which would explain my fats and thins: On the downswing my weight was transferring to the front of my left foot rather than to the heel.

Some optimism has returned!
