Pretty sure stabbing a guy in the group trying to play through qualifies as bad etiquette.

I have honestly never had an issue with playing through, I usually drive up and ask politely, if they say no I look for a way to get around without holding them up. JMO if someone is dead set against you playing through it isn't worth the trouble.
