My friends and I thought a good new stat we could add on oobgolf would be "honors" stat!

You could put a check mark each time you managed to get or keep honors in your round!

I don't think I've ever played with anyone who abides by that. I always play ready golf, I can't stand to wait around.

You, then, would not use this.

In my 5 years of golf, I have never NOT played with honors.

In this day of slow play it makes sense to play ready golf. One of the reasons most people give for not playing golf is "it takes too long" Ready golf could solve that problem. Now if we can find a way to reduce costs we might attract more people to the game.

I think I'm with Merlin on this one. I keep a lot of stats, but that's one that never crossed my mind. Probably because I don't really care who has honors, including myself, unless it is an official tourney. However, if someone in my group obviously had a great hole, maybe a bird while the rest of us had par or worse, certainly I would offer him the honors.

In any case, if that is something that you would like to track, there's no harm in asking, but you should probably request it under the "Ideas to Improve" forum.

Did not mean to offend, Timb, but, Like Doug says, If someone has a great result on the previous hole, we should defer to their great skill and give them the honor. Otherwise, it makes no sense to me to stand around waiting for someone to find a tee or wash their ball, or a million other things people seem to have to do when they should be ready to play.

Well, I still believe the stat would be a fun one to keep track of, for those of us that play with people who don't take 10mins. to get ready to tee off I suppose.

Why your playing partners take so long to tee off is beyond me.
Wash a ball: 10 seconds max.
Pick a club: 3 seconds
Walk to the tee from your bag: 4 seconds
etc.

I dont see where the delay is.
Maybe if your partner is taking so long that you need to abandon the time honored tradition of "honors", you should forget to call them the next time you're headed out.
No offense.

I kinda like the idea, if you have a regular foursome that you play in. It would be an interesting season-long stat/competition. You could even use that to determine who has the "honor" on the 1st tee for the next round.

I'm usually out by myself, and if I end up joining a group, I will typically allow them to play before me, since they may have something more going on then just a casual round.

One has to play with a regular group for the stat to make sense. Within the context of a group the stat could be fun, especially if subject to a little wager. Wink

right.
I would only keep the stat when playing with people I normally play with, and only if those people and I were of similar skill...

My friends and I have tried to figure out ways to keep a season-long "fed-ex cup" type standings, and this would be one way to do it.

I added the stat to my list of user suggested stats. It would be interesting to know what your longest streak of keeping honors was. It would show whether or not you can handle prosperity.

Just wanted to add that just because you don't play with the honors system doesn't mean you can't keep track.

With my regular playing partners, we do (usually) do the honors system because we are all fast golfers who tend to be ready at all times. Whenever there is someone new in our group (there are only three of us), we scrap the idea and play ready golf because everyone else always seems so slow.

The stat would indicate more about the skill of one's competition than one's own skill. I could rack up a bunch of honors points if I only played golf with my brother.lol

Instead of "honors" I'd rather see a button you could click for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th. Would be nice to see an ongoing tally of your wins against your regular playing partners.....
