These are my votes for the top 5 I have played.

1. Carnoustie , Scotland. Played twice and it ate my lunch both times.Cold ,windy, rainy. Scots think it's great.

2. PGA West, California. Too long . Unbelievable bunkers.

3. Bethpage Black, Long Island, Waste area, bunkers everywhere.Tough greens. No carts, Hard to walk.

4. Pinehurst #2, Sneaky Donald Ross gem with strange optical tricks that confuse you.Absolute masterpiece.

5, Wolf Creek, Mesquite, Nv. Visually stunning, Carved out of arroyo's and hills with tremendous elevation changes

If you have any entries I would like to hear aboy them.

If by "toughest courses" you mean those that I shot some pretty terrible scores. The list is too long for this site.

Give The Bear a try in Acme (Traverse City) at the Grand Traverse Resort. Golden Bear design. tons of fun, but bring a dozen. Anyone else played there?

I still think that the toughest course I have ever played was my home course back in Fargo. If any of your clubs are just a bit off, which they usually are for someone with a bogey handicap, you'll take a lot of penalty strokes.

The hardest holes I've ever played include numbers 3, 5, and 8 on that course. And the only other hole that even fits up with them is hole number 4 on what is becoming my home course down here in Phoenix. It's a 440 yard par 5. And I've never shot better than an 8. The first shot is hard because it's a very narrow fairway. The second shot is hard because it has a 90* dogleg. Balls have a tendency to roll over the fairway and into the abyss on the left hand side. And the third shot is hard because it is over an extremely deceiving water hazard with waste areas all the way around the green. If I can ever double this hole, I'll be ecstatic.

1 Copperhead course at Innisbrook ..had the honor of playing it the Sunday BEFORE the PGA Transitions Tournament started on Monday...TUFF SETUP .. Greens at 12 as announced by starter at first tee. Fairways narrowed up.

2. TPC @ Sawgrass ... WOW is all I can say....4-5 inch wet rough .. 2 inches off fairway or Green, and you were in trouble. However the greens were not as undulating as I had imagined them after seeing them on TV for decades.

3. Cypress Creek Golf Course (Ruskin, Florida)..a true hidden gem. Stunning Green complexes that are lightning fast, and well bunkered. Extremely tough course that requires very precise shot making. The course ratings are a testament to it's difficulty...example...white tees/only 6008 yards...Rating 70.5 slope 133 .... Back tees ..I think around 6900 (never been there..lol)...rating 73.5 slope 149..nuff said
