The fact that you are eating the crap out of those covers is actually by design. The balls are designed with a soft cover that allows the grooves to grip them. That's where your spin comes from.
I play Bridgestone E5. Technically, it's a two-piece distance ball. However, they have the soft covers that the ProV's have which makes them relatively easy to spin. Essentially, I can put backspin on the ball without getting any excess side spin. They are perfect for where my game is right now, and I just have to understand that I will never get more than a round or two out of them.
Most of your top-end balls are going to be the same.
