Depends what else is going on. If I'm booking a tee time for a group, and there are no "specials", I'll go for mid-morning (9-10ish).
If I have something else to do around the house (like cut the grass), or it's a last minute head out a play 18 by myself kind of day, I'm usually off between 11 and 1. Any later than that, and I run the risk of not being home in time to kiss my daughter good night.

it all depends what my golf funds for the week are. I tend to shy away from the "hot times" like 7 to 11 am because they're the most expensive. I'll try to play right at 11 or super duper early when there's early bird specials. Other than that, i really dont' care what time i play as long as i play.

most of the time I play twilight: 2:45-3:00 tee times. i've played mornings too at 6:45am. i don't mind playing in the heat, since it's not too humid in so cal, but some courses have lots of bugs and that annoys the crap out of me.

3pm twilight? Huh... where is that? Twilight rounds start at 7pm around here (at least during the summer season).

most twilights here in California the summer are 3pm, 'super twilight' at 5pm. right now, at the equinox, it gets too dark to play at about 8:45pm, doesn't stay light out until midnight like it does for you up at the north pole.

Haha, not the north pole but 52* north at the moment. Was in Sweden last week, drove home from a moose-safari at 1 in the morning, still enough light to drive without needing headlights of the car (other than that it's enforced by law to use 'm 24/24).

Sooo, if there's enough light at that time to drive without headlights, there's enough light to play golf. I think I like that Sweden place.

You would, I'm sure of it. Go another couple 100 miles up north (we where at the north side of the Vanern lake) and you can book teetimes 24h/day .
Not only that, these courses are almost empty during the week! I played Ekarnas (near Trolhattan), Sunne (north of the lake), Hammero (near Kristianstad) and the last course was a real treat: the links course of the PGA of Sweden national. All in great temperatures (between 70 and 80), sun, a bit of wind. Except for the last one, as for a good links course wind was a big factor there. 5 Bft, sometimes 7 I think.

Sailing in a 7 on the Beaufort Scale can be very exhilarating. I have done it literally hundreds of times. However, playing golf in it seems near impossible. Or at least, playing golf with some semblance of control in those conditions. Sounds like a fun challenge, but not great for scoring.

Sailing in 7 can be fun indeed (dangerous too), but on a links course it is a bit too much. I scored 54 out, 48 in, 102 in total - 32 stableford points. Not even too bad for an unknown course in these conditions. the 7 bft was a couple of gusts. Just wait until it disappears (or enjoy it if you've got it in the back ).

My buddies and I are "Dewbusters" Sometimes you can get a great idea about how much a putt breaks, if you are the second group to play the hole, by looking at the tracks in the dew. I wish I had had a camera one morning when I eagled a par 4 and the only mark on the green was the ball track 20 feet from the edge of the green to the hole.

Nothing like getting out by 530am-6am and being done before McDonald's stops serving braeakfast! I used to play a lot in the early morning hours. Get out first, play at my pace, finsih nice and early and still have the whole day to go to beach relax whatever. I haven't had a Dawn tee time for a year or 2 now and miss it just writing about it. Teeing off with a nice cup of coffee and still rubbing the sand out of my eyes somewhat sleepy still teeing off on the 1st hole. AHHHHHH love it! But I'll take whatever time i can get! went 7/3 at 12:30 and it was wide open, all the morning groups were finishing up and the afternoon rush was just about to start.
