Temperature on the course at 9:00 AM was 97 degrees.
Heat index was 113.
A person should NOT be outside in that crap.
I had a lot of good shots. Unfortunately, I also had a lot of bad shots. It was just too hot. I couldn't string two good shots together. The one thing I will say about this round, though, is that my putting was fantastic. I had one three putt, and that was after a 90 foot lag that I left about ten feet short. I had a lot of two putt tap-ins after long lags on this round. All in all, though, I left after nine holes and a 56 on the score card. That included six penalty strokes.

I'm stupidly going ahead with my plan to play today, despite the fact that it's going to be 101 degrees. When I got the idea to play, the forecast was for low 90s, which sounds wonderful right about now.

Hey..I actually like the heat. But when the air is so thick that you have to cut a swath through it to be able to swing your club, I call shennanigans.

Course temp today was 99 degrees, but the dewpoint was in the low 50's. Beautiful weather as far as I'm concerned.
I hit 5 GIR's today, and I finished my round off with four straight pars. The unfortunate part of my round were two of the greens that I *just* missed and got bad rolls into crazy bunker lies. The two holes were almost identical. I had downhill bunker lies with my feet a good 2-3 feet above the ball. I bladed both across the green into fescue, and had to take a stroke just to get out of the long stuff. Each of those two near green misses cost me 2-3 strokes. And then I four-putted one of my GIR's. Add two more three-putts to the mix, and man...I was so close to having a great round.
Overall, I shot a 45 on a par 33 course. But I potentially left 10 strokes on the course. I felt like I was playing extremely well. My score obviously didn't reflect it.

shot 88 on a par 74, first time breaking 90. also first round without any triples or worse. avoiding the big numbers was the key, though I feel like luck played some role in it. encouraged, nonetheless.

Well done. Save the scorecard for your scrapbook.
So, were you aware that you were closing in on a sub-90 round? What were you thinking after the double on #15? Whatever it was, you pulled it together to finish well.

Good job. And on a stout course as well.

Went out to crossgates yesterday and put up a 81 Not happy about it. 5 double bogeys. Ugh. 2 birdies and an eagle right in the middle of things, but i don't really understand what went wrong. I didn't feel like i was playing all that poorly but my missed swings came at really awful times and left me in a bad place 100% of the time. I even lost a ball in the middle of a clearing. It may have been picked up by other golfers but we didn't know for sure. Putted fairly well but did miss some short ones for no real reason. Mental lapse???

It was 100 degrees yesterday with a heat index of near 110, so OF COURSE I was out playing golf. There were parts of the round that felt like the Bataan Death March, but fortunately the course has a lot of shade and regular water jugs.
This was the round I talked about in a previous thread where I was playing with a total novice. I got some clarification from him, and as it turns out he's been to the driving range a number of times but had never played a full round. The guy actually doesn't have a bad swing. There are things to tweak or change significantly, but I have a feeling two or three lessons will yield huge results. He's just a natural athlete and very strong. He's now totally hooked on the game and is planning to go out and buy some Craig's List clubs as soon as he gets home.
Anyhow ... onto my game: I shot a 102. The score would have been well below 100 if I hadn't choked on the 16th, 17th, and 18th holes. Something different happened on each of them, so it's difficult to know what to work on other than just keeping my head on straight. Considering the obscene heat, I should probably be quite happy with this round. I suppose I can blame those last three holes on heat stroke!
High points: I always want to do well on the par threes, because they're a relatively easy way to make up strokes, and I was happy with my play on those holes, making bogie, bogie, par, par on them. I *just* missed birdie (one lipped and the other missed by an inch on a long putt) on both of the par 3s on the back nine.

i don't keep a physical scorecard, use my smartphone for scoring and GPS so no happy scrapbooking for me. Regarding the socre, yes I knew from the phone app that it was predicting a score in the mid to upper 80's, but I was intentionally trying not to focus on that. #15 was a bit of an anomaly because it was a tricky hole, like it had a repulsor magnet in it. everyone in my group 3-putted. i've been trying to manage my mental game, been reading the Rotella book, which has been quite useful.

Nice round Duke... really nice.
I'm in pismo for a week, but no room for clubs.
I am going to see if I can find a couple of courses with rental clubs
