How do you determine putting order? When playing with friends, it's generally just whoever.. but I'm curious how it SHOULD work.

When do you determine if you should let somebody take a second shot if they just barely missed a putt?

I learned putting order is determined by 'furthest' from the hole. Once that person putts, they can putt out if they choose to. When they finish putting by sinking their putt, or reliquishing to the next person, it is the next 'furthest' from the hole players turn.

I always figured that, I just wasn't quite sure when you should or shouldnt putt again. I guess if you putt and miss but are close enough that your next putt is a pretty sure thing, you go ahead and go again?

As long as your 2nd putt is relatively short and you don't have to stand in anyone else's putting line, I'm fine with you putting out.

It also kind of depends on what type of game you are playing. If we are in a skins game, and you blow your birdie putt 8 feet past the hole, I'd rather you marked it and let me putt my 5 footer for par.

Actually thats one time where we encourage each other to putt again, when they are in the way... so they don't have to mark it, they can just putt to get out of the way.. haha. But that's just with friends, I'm sure it would be different with strangers.
