Okay, at what point should I just say screw faster players and just go? No joke, I watched THREE groups go by me before I even started, and then another after the first hole, and then rushed the 2nd hole because I had people behind me.

After sitting around for as long as I did, I figured I need to just go and hold people up or I wasn't ever going to get to play.

Argh...

How long are you taking to play each hole?

I normally only let one group per hole play through if I'm holding people up. I don't think it's too out of line to ask a faster group to wait for one hole.

Probably no longer than them, I guess. I just figured since they're all likely better than me, and they all had carts (I refuse to use one), I should let them play through. I also hate when I have people behind me and feel rushed.

Are you playing as a single?

If so & Larger groups are pushing you to the point that you let them through - you're playing too slow (walking or riding)

Yes, playing as a single. And playing too slow is nothing I can help. And yes, I walk.

I'd recommend letting one group per hole play through, then. I know what it's like when there is a group of four with carts behind me who are all shooting birdies and pars, and they are waiting for me because I overshot the green twice. I really don't think it's too much to ask for someone to wait one hole unless you are looking for your ball. But also remmeber...if you're going to be waiting at the next tee box anyway, then what good does it do to let someone else play through?

I disagree - Slow play is not necessarily caused by poor play

I know lots of bad players that aren't slow & I know lots of good players that are slow. One of the best players I know is incredibly slow.

Carts aren't the issue either - I walk in my work league & the guys I play with have trouble keeping up with me when they are riding.

based on the scores you have posted you are not that bad - If larger groups are pushing you as a single - you are doing something wrong other than playing poorly. You are playing slowly

Poor play is not an excuse for slow play

There are lots of things you can do to speed up

Are you
1. Going straight to your ball?
2. Thinking about the shot you have to make & club selection while you are walking toward the ball so you are prepared when you get there?
3. Getting right up on the tee box and getting ready to hit as soon as you arrive?
4. Carrying a couple extra balls in your pocket?
5. Taking more than 1 or 2 practice swings? 1 is preferable
6. Agonizing over bad shots you made?
7. Placing your bag on the exit side of the green so you can exit quickly when done putting?
8. Writing your score down after you clear the green?

My guess is you could improve your pace of play and be less stressed about the groups behind you.

I don't do any of those things, besides writing my score down... but thats USUALLY as im walking to the next tee box.

Who knows... maybe I'm just not as slow as I think. I just see people on a cart and assume that they are both better than me and faster due to the cart.

I think I just worry that when I get people behind me, it will be the time that I hit it into the trees, or I can't find my ball, etc.

Rather than letting groups go by and waiting for them, try hitting off the tee with them and letting them pass as you approach your ball. That way you are not holding up the group behind and not waiting through several groups between holes.

Yeah, maybe. I think it's probably just me thinking I'm far worse than I am...

I think you are right - it is prabably just in your head

When you are stressed like that you can't play well

Just try to play at a reasonable pace - try a few of those suggestions above and you should pull away from larger groups

Had a group of 6 right behind me. By the time I finished my 9, I was a good 3-4 holes in front of them Smile

Dont feel bad. Some people are just into playing speed golf. Im serious. I played a week ago as a single and got paired up with this guy - nice guy, but man, it was a friggin cardio golf game. No practice swing, no looking at the putt, just hit and go. Not my idea of golf.

I think he just wanted to get in a round as fast as he could so he could get home. I dont know, but I think he would have been better off just hitting some balls at the range. It wasnt a golf game, it was golfersize... Shocked

I played with a "one-club-golfer" earlier this week. Seriously....the guy had a 7-iron, and that's all. He'd drive his cart up to the ball, hop off, take a whack, and be off to the next point. He even putt with the dang thing, and he made a 20-footer.

Very cool guy, but I'd hate to be playing in front of him.
