My golfing partner says it does.

I currently have 14 clubs in my bag plus a ball retriever, and I want to bring two drivers out with me on a round I intend to play on Monday. Will I still be within the rules?

Notwithstanding the old joke about having to have your ball retriever regripped. No, a ball retriever is not counted as a club, any more than your umbrella, which has a grip, is considered a club.

Thanks for the response.

Just for the record, though...both my umbrella and my ball retriever have grips.

That's what I said. Just having a hand grip, doesn't make it a golf club. The old joke was, "I am hitting so many balls in the water that I had to have my ball retriever regripped".

The guy who told me that my ball retriever was a club had a story behind it. He said that some lady professional had her kid put one of those Fisher Price plastic clubs in her bag before a round, and she didn't notice it until the third or fourth hole. She was either disqualified for having too many clubs in her bag, or had to take penalty strokes...something of that nature.

Now, I'm extremely skeptical of any story I hear (i'm a veteran of snopes.com), so I doubted that story from the get-go. Anyone ever hear of it?
