Thanks for the help guys.
Ashworth, I put in a section for both apps. Thanks, for the post and thanks for considering oob integration. I gave you a big C for oob support on both.
This is a really awesome thread, Chris.

Thanks!
The thread looks a little strange now though?? I see 2 pages that repeat the same posts?? I wondered if that long of a list might cause any problems.

I think it's just a forum glitch. I've seen it in other threads as well.

Thanks Paul. Looks great!
Sorry I'm just getting to this. I guess I missed the auto reply email and I haven't checked the post in a while.

I just recently upgraded to a smartphone and I won't lie that a golf gps/tracking app is part of the motivation. Just ran across this post and aside from reviews you've really done a bunch of the homework for me, thanks.

Glad I could help.
Smartphones are really great. With just one device you have instant functionality of what used to be several devices to keep up with. I'm still using a WM6 HTC Touch which still does fine but I'm always looking to upgrade. It's my opinion that the iPhone is probably the best smartphone/gadget to date. It's a shame that AT&T doesn't have good coverage in our area. It's probably a worse shame that Apple has only partnered with AT&T so far.
I like listing the the number of individual devices and functions that can be handled by one smartphone device:
1. Cell phone (could really throw in two-way radio as another one)
2. Camera
3. Video camera
4. MP3 Player
5. Portable computer (Internet, email, productivity apps, high-speed modem for pc's)
6. TV (including home DVR remote controller. Slingbox is amazing!)
7. GPS Navigation
8. GPS Golf Device (including distances, scorecard, etc.)
9. Calendar
10. Calculator
11. Voice Recorder
12. Oh yeah, Flashlight!!
And if you start listing the functions provided by additional applications the list can be near endless. The iPhone app commercials come to mind: video game player, level, bar code reader, guitar tuner, etc..
All of the above in the palm of your hand. Smartphones, gotta love 'em!

Chris, here is another Blackberry application for your list. I am currently playing with it and it looks promising. Fully customizable with multiple layout views.

It appears as if nRange is now available on the Droid.

And I'm a little jealous...the Droid version looks a million times better than the Blackberry version.
The iPhone version is still in beta.

Thanks guys, the list is updated.
The nRange on the Droid does look nice. I think the biggest factor in deciding which smartphone I'll try next will rely on what golf app I want to try next. Well, that and the fact that the iPhone isn't a sensible option in our area, yet!

One thing that I do like is the fact that nRange can be transported between phones and carriers. I paid the lifetime membership for nRange, so if I want to switch to a Droid in a year when my current "new-every-two" deal through Verizon is up, I can do so without having to buy nRange again.
I'm still holding out for Blackberry to come up with something that will compete within the next year, though. I do not like the iPhone. When I'm on the golf course, I tend to be running several different apps.
-a web browser running oobgolf to keep score
nRange
-my mp3 player if I'm alone on the course
-my integrated messages app if someone sends something to my emergency text inbox
-the camera if something needs to be recorded
-my flashlight app if my round goes a bit too far beyond dusk.
I don't think you can do that on an iPhone...but you can on a Droid.
How the heck did I ever live without my Blackberry?

I see in 2009 they were listed as coming soon for oob support. Still doesn't seem to be possible. This is a really great blackberry app and it is a shame that it doesn't include the upload to oob.

Bob,
I believe the developer for that app is an oob member with username, Ashworth. He/she posted on the first page of this thread and mentioned considering oob integration. So I replied and said I would put a "coming soon". Looks like the "soon" part didn't happen but maybe the "coming" part is still good. You might consider trying to contact Ashworth to get an update. Thanks for the post.
tharris1,
Thanks for the notice. I'll add it to the list now.

...to follow up on my last reply to Bob:
I looked at BBGPSGolf's forum and found a post in the "General" section that said the developer contacted oob about integration and for whatever reason, it's not going to happen. So I'll make the change in the list. Thanks again for the heads up.
