What are your opinions on long irons? Specifically, the 1, 2, and 3 irons. Personally, I prefer hitting long irons over woods because of the control I have with them. I can't seem to hit my woods consistently, but irons I can hit any day.

But anyway, do you think that they've become completely obsolete because of hybrids?

I have one hybrid in my bag, just in case I am 220 out and need a "pillowy" decent. Otherwise, I hit my chicken stick (3i) about 240 off the tee consistently straight... so I am in the long iron camp.

I love my 5 and 7 Adams woods, was never that good with long irons. My dad always said hit what you can hit. If you always slice your driver or 3 wood then keep it in the bag and get yourself a 2 iron.

That being said, with driver technology where it is today, hybrids, etc... it would pay to investigate all your options.

I've dropped everything longer than a 7 iron out of my bag. I'm about 150 with the 7. Anything beyond that, I'm either laying up, or taking a shot with a hybrid.

I'm not real accurate outside of 150, and I know I should probably take some lessons to work at least the mid-irons (5 & 6) into my bag, but I can't justify it. Most of the time, I'm within 7i or shorter range.

No long irons here. I have an 18* hybrid that I hit somewhat inconsistently. I guess that's equivalent to a 2 or 3 iron. When I hit it well, it results in a nice long worm burner.
