I like the concept of splitting short game and long game. But 50 yards doesn't seem like a good dividing point to me. I think it makes more sense to be 100 or at least 75.

the idea of the long shots is based on the golf digest article/calculation. 50 yards was their number. check out the article. try it for a few rounds or more and see if it makes sense to you. the number is used to determine your long game handicap, and your short game handicap. if your a 10 handicap, and your long game handicap calculates to a 15, then you probably had a bad day driving the ball and may want to spend some practice time on that. If your short game handicap is higher than your regular index, then you probably want to work on that. its a good indicator of how you played, and lets you know where you need to concentrate your practice time. definitely FAO. I like the thought of splitting my handicap into two parts: long & short. I agree with klangdon that I would like to see the split at 100 yards; 100 yards and in is where I struggle the most. Any shot that requires a wedge for me is a struggle and this applies to all shots of less than 100 yards.

I think 50 or 75 is a good division for long game. At that point its more than a chip or pitch, it requires at least a half swing and is much more difficult to control distance and aim.

I'd also like to see putts from off the green to give a better idea of how many putts were taken, versus how well your chipping and pitching are from off the green.
