I have about a 150-175 yard drive, and off the tee it goes pretty straight...until about 2/3 the distance. Then it starts to curve off to the right, like a delayed slice or something.

Does anyone have a fix for this? I think my grip *might* be turned too far on top of the club; I read that the club (for a righty) should pretty much lay in your left hand and that hand should kind of do the leading. I tried it once and got a straight wormburner off the tee, though it was exactly where I was aiming it (to the left because I aimed to the left to compensate for that right-curved "thing".)

Help!

i am no expert, so i hesitate to give advice. but...

i think a problem with the grip would be more likely to see you push the golf ball to the right. not have it break right at the end. breaking right at the end sounds like its a spin problem instead of an open face issue. so my guess would be its something in the swing that is causing you to come across the ball from outside to inside, which i guess could be your grip?

last year i bought a david leadbetter swing setter. while i don't think it helped my swing mechanics much. it definately improved my grip. it has this weird grip on the top that forces your fingers to be in the correct locations.

Expert Opinion Here....Move the ball back at address, so that contact is made sooner in the swing arc. Hey, just kidding about the expert part, but it worked for me. I used to have to line up 30 degrees to the left to get it to land in the fairway. Now I rarely miss the fairway. I still have some issues with the direction on fairway woods which is why you don't see me breaking 80. Good Luck....

I some times pull(the left) some of my approach shots. i set up to have a 2-3 yard draw on my shots. naturally i notice when i pull a shot, my stance is more closed than i normally have it and my body is forcing it self to turn across just to square out my club at impact. When i do this it puts more right to left spin on the ball and consequentially i pull my shot.

For you the opposite

. . . .or you are not coming over with your wrists and not squaring out your club head at impact leaving your club face like a fade.
o/(fade/slice) vs. o|(square) vs. o(draw/hook)

I used to have that same ball flight on my bad days. I fixed it by releasing my wrists more through impact this enabled me to release the club head better it straightened me out and added 15 to 20 yards(to my driver). This also worked out for all my clubs even more for my scoring irons. Try not to be all arms through impact that helps to learn the release it will feel like your arms swing slower at the point you begin to release on the ball but the result proves otherwise. Stay relaxed and hit them straight, hope this helps GOOD LUCK!

Soon to shoot par,Billy Cool
