So, I just bought a new iron set 4i through AW. I have played my first few rounds putting all my new set in play... bag being:

Driver 10.5'
3 Wood 15', 7 Wood 20'
3 Hybrid 21'
4 iron 23', 5 iron 26', 6 iron 29', 7 iron 33', 8 iron 37', 9 iron 41', Pitching Wedge 45', Attack Wedge 50'
Sand Wedge 56'
Putter

I pulled out: 4 Hybrid 24', Gap Wedge 52', & Lob Wedge 60'. After my first few rounds I was thinking ditch the 4 iron & put in the 60' Lob Wedge. Either way it will be at most a couple shots per round but which should I pick? or a different set up?

Depends on the course and weather. Sometimes, you'll have more use for the 4 iron, sometimes you may want the 60*W.

Question: why do you carry a 20* 7 wood and a 21* hybrid?

I'll use the 3 wood off the tee if I don't want to hit driver. I use the 7 wood from the fairways & I hit it further than the hybrid... with the 1 extra degree & it is 2 or 3 inches longer can't remember which.

Do you prefer your new 4i over your old 4h? I ask because it seems to me that your choice should be about which hybrid to eliminate rather than if you should eliminate a wedge.

But at the same time, the presence of the 7w really changes the entire dynamics of the set. I've never played a 7w. But it seems to me that, if that is your third wood, it should take the place of one of your hybrids. For instance, I play a driver, a 5w, a 3h, and a 4h. That's four distance clubs whereas you'll have five if you go with both hybrids. And I'm even thinking of eliminating one of those distance clubs in favor of another wedge.

I remove my 3 wood for a 7 wood with a keel (rail) sole. Great for getting out of Bermuda rough. I'm not strong enough to get through deep rough without the grass grabbing the hosel. When the rough is shallow or dormant I go back to the 3 wood.

When the rough is deep and thick, I just use an iron either way.

I already did choose one of my hybrids, the 3H, and sent the 4H to the side. I would also choose the 3H over the 4i that is why I am saying either 4i or LW.

Old set up:
Driver
3Wood, 7Wood
3Hybrid
4i,5i,6i,7i,8i,9i,PW,AW,SW
Putter

New set up:
Driver
3Wood, 7Wood
3Hybrid
5i,6i,7i,8i,9i,PW,AW,SW,LW
Putter

just my 2c - the 4i (hybrid style) and 60* wedge are by far my 2 least used clubs in my bag. if i had to get rid of one of them, I'd toss the 4i. LW is handy sometimes in bunkers or with short chips and pitches
