r9 vs r7 425... anyone?

Short story: Bought an r7 425 new on a whim, back in 05 (I think) when I first started playing. 10.5 R.

Two years ago I put an Aldila NV 65-S to reduce the ballooning. Helped for a while, but as I've improved so has my swing speed... and the ballooning. 105-110, and I've actually rolled backed a few drives! Mojo baby! Lol.

I spent some time in a store, on the LM and went through several drivers. Narrowed it down to the VR or r9 (2009) 9.5 stiff.

Anyone hit the R9 next to an R7 425? Would getting the r9 be the same as just getting a 9.5 r7 425 head (excluding the adjust-ability factor)?
