Okay not really... or at least not for very long...100 bad shots and mishits seem to always be trumped by one good shot haha. I'm 26 been golfing for about 6 months now. Moved from South Texas to Northwest Arkansas to care for my ill grandma and golf is my outlet. Seem to be similar to most new golfers and have slicing issues. Seems like I find a fix that works for half a round...maybe a full round if I'm lucky haha. In the past month I have gone from an interlocking grip, to a baseball grip, and now to a varden or overlapping grip...2 rounds in a row seems to cut down on the number of slices off the tee box. I love wedges...by far my best clubs...I use a 54 and 58 degree wedge for any close shots or sand shots...there are two really short par 3s where I play (100-115 with the hole downhill) and sometimes the 54 is perfect for sticking it on the front of the green! Glad I found this site...super cool! Any tips welcome Smile

Welcome Brandon.

I too hate this game certain days; that is until I'm done with the round. Then I want to get back out and play again to prove that I'm better.

I have slice issues as well. Slicing sucks and trying to conquer it keeps me working at this game.

I can hit my irons and wedges great and without slice but when it comes to my driver and fairway metals, I cannot get rid of the slice completely. Oh, this game is frustrating; yet a blast at the same time.

Sorry for the long rant. Enjoy the site.

No worries on the rant haha I feel your frustration! Seems like the only sure fire fix for the slice is to count on it and try and play it...then I always hit it straight...our of bounds! I just ordered a adjustable weight driver so we will see if that can help at all!

This game is love/hate....which you love the great shots and hate the bad ones...some how the great shots over power the bad ones and pull us back to the course.

I was having an issue on Thursday when I went out of slicing (been an reoccurring problem)and I was trying to figure it out. I slowed my swing which didn't help. Then I realized that I wasn't completing my turn after impact very well.

After this I was keeping the thought of releasing my hands during the rest of the round and my ball striking improved and my ball flight much straighter with a slight draw. If I over did it though I would pull a duck hook but that was only 1 or 2 shots.

And by the end of the round my swing was back to full speed and still flying with the slight draw.

Just thought I would share...might help might not...

best of luck on your games

Thanks Travis! I went and played a round yesterday as well. I started out at the driving range and was doing decent, then saw some buddies teeing off at the first hole so cut my practice short to hop into their group. Was a decent day...had some problems out of the tee box but managed a few nice drives! Shot a 95 but there was a fair amount of mulligans ha. I'm hoping to get out to the range Fri and play Sat but the world cup starts and for at least the next month it may take priority over golf ha. I am having trouble with releasing the club...I understand the concept but I think what is happening is my swing is out racing my hands closing...if that makes any sense? I've only been playing a few months but I manage to play on average 2 or 3 rounds a week...starting to think I need to cut back to 1 or 2 times a week and spend more time on the range but we shall see!

I know there is a time and a place for the driving range but I have been told that you are better off playing than being on the range....but I do both so...who knows....I am still a 30 + handicap

Yea...I like to go to the range to warm up before I play but seems like straight on the range equals sliiiice on the course haha. I think my biggest problem is I try fixing to many things at once and end up trying a million things at once! I am going to try and get better at that. I think I am going out Fri or Sat to the range, my new driver and irons get here! I bought two different 7 irons so I can see which clubs I feel more comfortable with. I feel like if I am not disciplined on the range it doesn't amount to much practical knowledge as I just start hitting. My handicap is somewhere waaay up there...when out with friends we take a lot of mulligans haha so it's hard to even guess a handicap...probably around 40 I would imagine.

I shouldn't be the one talking because I have been sitting here trying to decide whether or not I should play a round tomorrow or just hit the range. Hope your new clubs work for you.

Welcome to the site...I too am relatively new to this site. Sorry to hear about your grandma. I actually just moved from Fayetteville to Tulsa, and I still go back pretty often. Ill add you, maybe we can hook up and play sometime.

If you want a bit of advice, while youre still brand new to the game......cut youre playing time down dramatically and go out and get some lessons. A good pro will start you off on the correct swing plane which is much easier to do when youre brand new. Try a buying a pack of 6 lessons and hitting 800-1000 balls on the range in between each lesson, and maybe a round every 3 lessons or so....Youll be amazed at how fast youll improve.
