I've been using GolfCard for my Android, and, as you all know, it no longer supports OobGolf. I'd like to get a new app (free or paid makes no difference), but I don't know what is the best thing out there. I don't need GPS, as all that does is drain my battery. I'm looking for a score card with as many stats as GolfCard that can upload to OobGolf (live if possible, but I'm not sure if the Droid will do that). I really like the features on GolfCard, so something similar would be ideal. Also, I've seen complaints that some apps do not provide all course information (e.g. not all tees available). Something that uses the OobGolf database of courses would be ideal. Thanks.

Would the oobgolf mobile site cover what you need?

There is an app called YourGolf for the Android that syncs directly to OobGolf. The app is absolutely amazing, especially since it's free. It even has GPS support.

I almost agree. It has one flaw that I consider a deal-breaker: it is not possible to mark a shot using the putter as a non-putt (i.e. used the putter from outside the green). I asked the developers to look into this and although they did acknowledge the error and promised to solve it, the three versions that have been released since than still contain this feature.

I tried jlgolf (easy and effective but I hate the way you need to enter scores) and a couple of others but a.t.m. I'm back at GolfCard. Have to enter the scores on oob by hand.

Yesterday, the fine iPhone app "GolfShot" was released for Android but they ask $30 for it and it doesn't sync to oobgolf either... Crying or Very sad .

Maybe if the winter is too cold again for playing I find the time to write something myself - it's really not that difficult.

I agree about the putt option, that is really kind of dumb that they haven't fixed it. Since their last update, it also force closes on me constantly. I too have thought about just writing my own app. I think I'd also prefer something with less graphics, but still gets the job done, so everything loads a bit faster.

Kevin says that the OOBgolf Android app will be released by the end of September.

Anyone tried out any of the other Android golf gps apps? How did they rate? So I can compare to oob app for Android when it is ready

GolfCard is the best of them. It used to integrate with OOB, but they inexplicably switched to the far inferior USHandicap.

FreeCaddie is the other good one. It's a good deal simpler than GolfCard and has a massive course database.

GolfCard is good for doing everything - mapping, shot tracking, stats, scorekeeping. FreeCaddie is great if you're keeping score on a paper scorecard, as it gives you mapping and shot tracking.

So, is Golfcard still the best if you don't really care about integrating with oob, or has their switch-over ruled out their viability? I have not read many, if any, encouraging reviews about GC since the change. What about Skydroid? Any feedback on that?

GolfCard is still the best if you don't care about online integration. A lot of users, myself included, have given critical reviews of it out of resentment. It had this great, great feature built right in and then one day it was just gone.

Skydroid is pretty anemic when it comes to features and functionality compared to the competition.

One of the major problems with Golf Card now is that the courses it relied on were on Oobgolf. Now when I play a course and score with Golf Card, the slopes and handicaps are frequently incorrect, and on some courses they will only have one tee box listed. The functionality is great, but the data it relies upon sucks. Then you add that you can no longer keep an online handicap without paying, and it is useless for my purposes.

Another good app that integrates with oobgolf is yourgolf. The only thing I can fault it with is that it doesn't make a difference between a putt and the use of the putter off-green, both are counted as "putts". I have asked the author to change this and even though he acknowledged the error and promised to fix it, the bug is there even in the latest version.
