Work and school have had me extremely busy lately. My round a day plus an hour or so of practice has suffered immensely. I'm primarily noticed it on my short game. My chipping and putting are horrible right now. This has happened in the span of a month. Now, I play with guys who get out maybe 2-3 times a year and still play to a single digit handicap. How is this possible? A month ago, I felt like I was playing more to about a 15 handicap than the 20 I have posted. Now, I feel like I'm playing more to a 30 handicap.

What can I do to keep my short game in check when situations arise where I just can't get out to practice and play?

If your wife lets you, you can practice indoors, even 10 min a day is helpful.

I putt & chip in the living room, basement, etc. (as long as you have pretty smooth carpet). I chip balls into the couch or over it.

You can also get those wiffle golf balls. Work on your posture, stand, grip, contact, tempo, etc. For chipping I focus on keeping my weight on my forward foot, shaft leaned forward, ball positioned toward my back foot, crisp/clean contact, not looking up until well after contact.

it might even help just to take practice strokes, since I live in an apartment. When I chip, my worst misses come from taking too much turf (which stops the club...my partner always says I'm decelerating, but I honestly don't think I ever decelrate on any golf swing unless something stops the club head).

The problem with hitting any type of ball, though, is too little space and too much furniture. I live pretty frugally because I need all the money I can get to spend on my golf game:)
