Allow me to vent. I had to cut two of my playing partners loose.
Guy #1 comes a half an hour late to the course and then has the gall to conduct a conference call for three holes with his cell phone on speaker mode. Are you kidding me !!
Guy #2 should be a commentator on the Golf channel. He has to verbally analyze every shot he makes, with in depth explanations as to what he did right or wrong. Give me a break !!
So now I am calirvoyant. I know I am going to be busy on Fridays for the rest of the year.
KEEP IT IN THE SHORT GRASS

heh I go "nuts" if the guys I play with aren't there 30 minutes before the tee time, let alone what "Guy #1" did to you. Were it me, I'd of never heard the conference call, since I'd of teed off without him.
As to Guy #2, those types of players crack me up more than they annoy me. They tend to get me to where I make up crazier and crazier "explanations" as to what I did wrong just for the helluva it.
Don't blame ya for cutting them loose tho.

Guy #1: I would have made lewd comments or said raunchy things loud enough for the conference call people to hear. Maybe add a little flatulence just for good measure.
Guy #2: Shut the hell up. I don't care why you missed OR made the shot. If you missed, pay me. If you made it, here's your money. End of conversation.

I'm with kidave on both counts. The commentator is toughest to deal with because you have to deal with him all day. When I get the cell phone guy, I give him the thousand yard stare, that usually works.

you got it, find new partners to play with,
golf is for golfing and fun to escape the daily wows of work and life's ifs, not to make calls or conduct business unless its a sales outing with clients and still I would limit that to the 19th hole...

Cut those suckers loose!!!
How about unwanted advice. I played with a guy this past summer that kept trying to give me swing tips. For example after hitting a draw he would tell me, "did you know that you were aimed right?". On another hole he said, "try keeping your head down". I shot 74 to his +100.

i used to play with a guy who was constantly on his cell phone too. i finally cut him off after putting up with it waaaay to long. its like he HAD to be on his phone at all times to look important or something. hell, i was following him home from lunch one afternoon (we used to work together), and of course he gets on his cell as soon as he gets into his truck. and then i proceed to watch him T-Bone some poor old lady cuz he was on his cell phone not paying attention. i even had to testify in court AGAINST him! i wasnt going to lie for him.

Guy #2 is the worst. If there's anything i can't stand it's the "guy who can barely break 90 if at all who tries to hit the high draw from under the tree into the wind with a little backspin knockdown 8 iron". They explain EVERYTHING to you. "i was trying to hit that with a little bit of cut spin". Usually when they start doing that stuff i say "how about you just aim at the center of the green and hit a normal shot and don't tell me about it"
It's rude, but as i'm normally the better player in the groups i come across (even though i'm not that good) it seems that most people have a need to be validated in their golf game i guess. I dunno. Guy #1 is just a d*ck tho. who talks on their cell phone at the golf course anyway. Driving range, ok, course - no.

Phones on the course are definitely annoying, but I'm okay with them as long as the person using it makes an effort to not be noticed while he is using it. Obviously, if he is talking on it constantly, that's not much of an effort.
Ordinarily, I ask people to text me when I'm on the course (which is pretty much always when it's daylight and I'm not at work). That way, since I'm always using my phone to keep score and get yardages, I can get back to someone without anyone noticing.
But sometimes, since I spend all of my free time on the course, using the phone is just not avoidable.

I have a playing partner who doesn't talk on it but text messages alot. It irritates me because he gotta put a message in even when it's his shot. Since we share a cart I bring him to his ball and give him the yardage from my gps, but he doesn't get out, instead he starts to text. I stare at him until he gets out, then I drive to my ball. Tempo is important to me and I hate to be held up by text messaging. Can't it wait until its not your turn.

I think I would rather play with cell phone guy. Like another poster said... I never would have heard the call as I would have been on the 2nd or 3rd hole by the time he even showed up. If he was on the phone while playing a round, I'd simply tell him to get off the phone.
As for the commentator, ignore him or ask him if his commentary actually sounds intelligent in his head.
I would actually rather play with either of them than the super slow, take 47 practice swings then top it 12-feet golfer.
