I've been shopping for new irons for a while, and I will probably end up buying myself a new set sometime this year.

As I've been shopping, though, I've also been kicking around the idea of building my own. My thought is that if I build them myself, I have complete control over the entire process. I can customize them however I want, and tweak them as needed once complete.

Have you built your own clubs?

Do you know where I can get the proper tools to do this? I'd like to keep it fairly inexpensive, so if someone knows of a good "used" outlet for clubmaking tools...

I buy grips from the following Ohio company. I have never attempted to go beyond re-gripping clubs. Just have never been that interested in many of the details (swing weight, torque, kick points, etc ...)that seem to fascinate many golfers.

www.golfworks.com (there are many other suppliers but these guys have done right by me in the past).

I bought my clone clubs online in 2005 from a couple different companies. I selected what I wanted for all adjustments on the heads then ordered what I wanted for shafts, grips, adhesive etc. When I got the it really wasn't difficult. Just used a vice, tape measure and a plumbers pipe cutter to cut and set the heads and then ivory dish soap and water to put the grips on. Let them dry for a couple days and done. The glue set on the club heads within minutes so we could set them down right away. That was 2005 and I've yet to have a problem with the clubs.

Here are the places I bought my stuff from with no problems.
