With the passing of Pat Summerall a great voice has been silenced. Pat broadcast the Masters for twenty seven years from 1968 to 1994. He and Ken Venturi were the perfect blending of calm, commanding,reliable and understated broadcast journalism that few others could match. Both realized that theirs was a visual medium and that allowed them to rarely verbalize all over the action. It is ironic that Venturi will be ushered into The Golf Hall of Fame this year. I would wish that somehow Ken could take Pat by the hand and that they could go in together.

Agree Joe! Very sad. Pat was a tremendous announcer, not only for golf but the NFL as well!!!

I've missed Summerall since he retired from NFL broadcasting. Even though he declined in his final few seasons, listening to him and Madden every Sunday afternoon filled me with a nostalgia that I haven't been able to replace. I grew up with them. And the NFL hasn't been the same since.
