after playing yesterday and shooting 82 on a very tight but short course (alden pines, in bokeelia, fl), went back to my home course today and FINALLY had a good round and shot 77 feels like forever ago since I had a sub 80 round (it was 5/5/12). feel pretty good about it should be around this all the time but things were not working right. Hopefully I have turned a corner and should be there all the time, we will see next saturday.

82 in day one of a two day two-man team tournament, pretty happy with my playing. Course was set up quick, haven't seen greens here this fast before. I made a few putts, missed a few putts. Pretty happy with staying focused and even keeled. Had one hole I screwed up and mishit my tee shot so badly it didn't clear the forced water carry off the tee, ended up with triple. My parter and I are ahead of the flight so far, if we stay on top then we play the other flight winners in an elimination shoot-out in alternate shot format.

94 at Heron Lakes from the back tees. 4 penalty strokes and a three putt. Still it brings the handicap down.

Interesting 77 today. A little too hot today at around 100*, but for a chance to play on a deserted course, almost anything's possible. I have assimilated with the heat by now so it didn't hit me too bad. I was able to concentrate but I did have to take breathers after walking up to my ball.
I hit it like crap today. 9 GIR is good for the stats, but most were way off. Seems like I have forgotten how to hit a short iron. I got weirder and more uncomfortable with it and finally it came to a head on the 14th hole, an easy pw from the fairway--cold shanked it. Almost did it again on the 18th, another simple pw. Just seem to have lost the feel for pinching an iron off the fairway. I will be honest, I hit some real bad skulls.
Putting saved the round. Shortening my stroke has turned it all around. Now I can stand over a 50 footer and actually feel in the loins like I can get it close. Not a one three-putt today and believe it there were plenty of opportunities. I am putting better than I ought to.

83 today, day two of the tournament I mentioned. My partner and I won our flight with four solid 9 hole rounds. We then played the alternate shot format shoot out. It was wild.
There were 8 two-man teams in the shoot out. The six winning teams in each flight and two wild card teams (with highest points won). Alternate shot format, one ball rule, etc. All 8 teed off together. After each hole one team was eliminated. It was handicapped off the low team handicap (which was ours, my parter was a 3 - so basically we had to give strokes to other teams depending on the holes etc). We grinded through one and two with pars as players started basically taking themselves out with blow ups. Number three we were looking good off the tee and I duffed a fringe chip, barely got it on the green. We bogeyed, but continued on. Par on the next two holes to get into the last three remaining. The format then changed so that 6&7 were cumulative for elimination leaving 8&9 cumulative for the last two teams. My partner had holed on 5 leaving me teeing off on a tricky #6. We actually discussed if we wanted to three putt to let him tee off, but I said nah, that doesn't sound right, let's just play our regular games. So off the tee - I pulled my 5 iron dead left. He had a tricky punch thru, didn't make it, then I punch through over the back. We end up with a double. Other two teams are in with par and bogey. On #7 my drive went thru dogleg fairway put us a little blocked out behind some trees. My partner put one over to the right of the green. We calculated that we pretty much had to hole the chip to have hope to stay in. I had been chipping pretty well over the weekend, decided to give it the best try I could. Bladed it very thin- hit the stick - ran over the green. We're done.... ahhhh
EDIT: I just re-read that and realize it makes no sense if you weren't there... sorry for rambling. ...

84 at Heron Lakes from the white tees. I went out in 42 with a double bogey on 9. Birdied 10 (a par 5) with a two putt. I was +5 standing on the 13th tee box and started to get my hands around the old throat. Played the final 6 holes 7 over par. I did get a sniff of the 70s. A far cry from about 5 weeks ago.

Ha! We have all been there. Good shooting, nonetheless.

got to play with BirdieXris on Friday at dauphin highlands. I don't know what was going on with the focus but I was just looking to have a good time and couldn't even try to get focused. LOL shot a smooth 81, not great, but oh well I did have a great time.

Actually, I have seen the same format in action at my father's member/guest. I agree with you that the "shoot out" format is pretty wild with 8+ teams all teeing off together.
Sounds like you guys acquitted yourselves well, even if you did not win the whole thing. There is always next year!

Thanks. I have to say it was cool getting a whiff of a sub 80 round after all the crappy golf I have played this season.

Sounds like a blast!
I've actually begun to differentiate between my fun rounds and my serious rounds. It's my only way to stay sane. If I'm out with a bunch of buddies after work, there is no way I can keep my head in the game long enough to score well. But when I go out by myself on the weekends, it's all about executing.
