I always thought that most all rounds involved some violation of the rules.
I have seen people do everything from rolling the ball to a better lie,kicking it from behind a tree,etc...
However on my last trip to the course,a trio of golfers waved me up.I hit my drive in the fairway and rode up for my second shot.Two of the guys had RETEED their ball in the fairway for their second shots.It was all I could do to smile,thank them,and keep my damned mouth shut.I managed to do it though.
The kicker was that they were playing from the white tees.If you need to retee the ball from there to reach the green,just move up to the damn gold tees.
I imagine that they will now tell their friends that they shot some great score from the white tees no less.
I am now a believer in the need to Tee it Forward.

They must have been playing "Lift, clean and place......it on the tee."

I would be willing to bet that 95+% of rounds are not played 100% by the rules. That being said if they were, rounds would take the average amature 5+ hours to play. think of the 1 foot gimme, the illegal drop on water hazards (not lateral), mulligans, et al. While I don't frown upon it I like to play by the rules all the time...I have had playing partners tap back a few inch putts but still don't like it, let me play my ball if you want the 2 foot putt let me know and i don't care its your score.

If you ever play tournament golf (which I don't play that much), it is a world of difference in pace of play and questionable rulings.

I say lets all enjoy the game at our own pace and eventually rules will be followed and everyone can enjoy the game.

They may just be learing. Which might be why they let you play through. Yes they shouldn't play the whites. But I have my wife tee up everything 5i and over. Also I have her move it to the center of the fairway no matter where it was if she has one of those clubs.

Ok this is coming from someone who plays casual rds and tournament rds. Yes I agree with gamble that 95% has some type of rules violation. In my normal group we play roll in fairways, gimmies, and we also have a rock/ root rule ( not pebbles ) to speed up play and also to prevent damage to clubs and body. Also once you hit dbl, pick up. All people in my group are also 8-12 hcp players. We normally play 6 so we try to keep a 4 hr round. Now I'm the only one in my group that plays in tournaments where 100% rules are followed. I personally have no issue with someone doing some things like improving your lie as long as im not playing you for money or its a tournament where that is not allowed. But every golfer and every group has their own "local" rules and if that what they want to do that's fine. I don't have to play those rules.
