yesterday i went to one of my local clubs at around noon. the course was JAM-PACKED. things were a bit slow in our 3-some as there were many 3-somes and 4-somes ahead of us. but the 2-some behind us did something that was extremely rude. hole 8 was a pretty short par 4 and we were in the fairway about 100 yards out. the 4 some ahead of us left the green and we got ready to hit, but the 2 some behind us decided to just skip the hole and go to 9 which was a pretty bad idea because it just made play slower. they of course had to wait for the 4 some ahead of us who were on the 9th tee. we played out the 8th hole and when we got to the tee of the par 3 9th the 4 some that we were originally following was waiting on the tee and the 2 some who skipped hole 8 was behind them plus another 4 some was just driving up to the green! i had to wait about 30 minutes before our group could play. then what do i find as i play the par 5 11th hole? ANOTHER 2 some skipping the hole and making us wait even longer! as even more groups began to skip holes, i figured i needed to just dillydally around to avoid waiting 30+ minutes on tee boxes. the course was so packed that it took me almost 7 hours to play 18! if i play by myself and there is no one on the course i can play 54 holes in 7 hours. only skip holes if there is no one in front of the group you`re skipping and you don`t hold anybody up, NEVER SKIP if the course is packed and you`ll make other people wait.;

In that situation, you should contact the clubhouse. Hopefully someone playing in your group has a cell phone. If it's hurting play that badly, it needs to be reported.

I don't think it's ever okay to skip holes. Period. If the course is playing too slow, go home.

Had a guy jump onto hole four in front of me a couple of weeks ago. I was playing catchup with a foursome. I hit my drive on number four (a par 5) without realizing the guy was there, and then I just about hit him with my second shot as he jumped out of a grove of trees to start heading towards the green. My second shot laned about five feet to his right and scared the living daylights out of him.

i think it`s ok to skip holes if you won`t hold anyone else up or make anyone else wait and if there`s a big gap in between groupings. the guys skipping on the jampacked day was a bad idea, because the pace of play did not improve, plus it just made me and the people behind me wait even longer.

I only skip at twilight when you can get 2 holes in front of the group you're skipping, and only if you know you will keep ahead of them.

I drove to golf, played a round, drove and got dinner and home in 4 hours today.
I dread tomorrows 6 hour round... but thats why I play twilight.

I always play to let people through. I want to play fast, but I want to be a gentleman too.

Skipping holes should not be tolerated but in the case of a group that you know has held you up for several holes with no one in front of them and does not have the decency to allow you to play through..then by all means take the steps necessary to move on.

So another foursome skipped the 8th hole too? If it doesn't mess up pace of play or hold anyone up i have no problem with skipping a hole for to save time and finish your round.

I have skipped holes plenty of times when there i'm solo and there is a large group in front of me. I also start on the back nine a lot of times intead of the front when there is a large group there. Most course do not care about this unless they are very busy.

I jump holes frequently cuz I play alone a lot.
I do make an attempt to let the folks I'm passing know what I'm doing.
Anything is acceptable if it doesn't adversely affect other players.
I frequently start on the back if tee one is crowded.
Number nine at one of my tracks makes it easy to tell if its a reasonable idea cuz I can see its entirety from tee 10.

In that situation call the marshal and play behind the original 4some that you were trailing. Yes, those guys will get extremely pissed, but that is why you called the marshal... he will calm them down and or kick them off.

I don't mind if the course starts sending people off the back, if they're trying to clear the front for the weekly dogfight. BUT if, in our case, we had started early and were making the turn, so the fivesome that was teeing off on 10 should have let us go on through, instead of insisting on starting in front of us. We'd finished the front 9 in an hour and a half and were looking to do the same on the back since we'd started real early. These jackasses slowed everything down so bad that we just left.

I know what u mean.
One time I was alone, making the turn, looking forward to the long par five cuz there was no one on 10 and tee box 11 was empty when the starter sent a foursome out ahead of me.
what a dipshit
I was actually doing pretty good up to then. Killed whatever momentum I had going.

They finally let me thru on 14
