Im James, livin in Va Beach, while having 12 years in the US Navy, I tee it up every chance that I get. I picked this game up numerous times as many may have( just out drinking) while I was growing up in the Navy, but it became MY passion about 5 years ago. Having the oppurtunity to play courses overseas that many would not ever have the chance on courses like, Dubai Creek, Emirates, and Montgomerie of Dubai, along with courses in Bahrain and Spain make this game just as special. I absolutely enjoy not only this site, but once becoming an ADDICT, the app on the phone as well. I am at or around a 12 handicap, which i am indeed happy with, but my next goal is to hit single digits next year. A hole in one would be another notch I would like to have on the belt, but maybe one day. My goal, once one career is completed, is to venture in to the golf world and be a part of this great game for the rest of my life.

Thank you very much. Normally, I am a stat tracker after a round but just today I have begun reading up on the forums. I appreciate your hospitality there.

Are you still in the Navy? Stationed at Oceana? What courses do you play in the area. I was stationed at Oceana for 2 years. Welcome aboard.

I am still active and stationed there at Oceana. I would call Aeropines my home course due to the fact its right close to me. But besides the private courses here, I have pretty much ventured out and played most courses in the seven cities. THere are two that I am dying to play though, up on the eastern shore. The Nicklaus and Palmer courses there. If I were to rank order my favorites it would go as follows.
1. Cypress Creek Golf Club
2. Heron Ridge
3. Sleepy Hole
4. Cypress Point
5. Aeropines(Hornet Course)
6. Langley AFB (Raptor course)
7. Signature at West Neck
8. Nanesmond River
9. Kiln Creek
10.Cahoon Plantation

How bout you Joe?

I am the resident old fart on oobgolf so many of the courses on your list are foreign to me. I was stationed at Oceana from 54 to 56 with VF 83. Our squadron qualified the F7U Cutlass for the fleet. Oceana was the experimental feeding Station for the fleet at that time so the food was super great. The first professional golf event I attended was the Virginia Beach Open at Virginia Beach C C.I played once and a while at that time. Eight of us shared a house on the beach so our interests tended to partying and helping out all of the girls that came down from Washington for some fun and sun.
