i guess i'll join the gang here and post what's happening in my bag. as fortune would have it, my uncle and aunt both work for Ping in Arizona, so i pretty much get my clubs for dirt cheap, which is why i look like a Ping homer Shocked . the thing is, during high school while i was playing for the team, i stayed as far away from Ping as i could, except for my putter. but as time went on, 5-6 sets of irons later, i came around to Ping and can't say i have found a better feeling set of quality irons. enjoy. Very Happy

Driver: 08 Cobra F Speed LD 9.5*, Grafalloy Prolaunch Red 65 Stiff
Fairway: Ping G5 5wood w/Aldila NV75 stiff
Hybrid: Ping G5 4i, 22* w/Aldila NV85 stiff
Irons: Ping S58, 5i-PW, w/Z-Z65 stiff
Wedges: Ping Tour 60*, Callaway Forged Vintage 58*, Ping i3+ SW, Titleist Vokey 52*
Putter: Ping Redwood Anser in Black Satin

now, the Callaway Vintage 58* is something my dad gave to me, and i never use it because the shaft is too short and i figure i might not really need it but it's the 14th club in my bag. i'm wondering what i want to replace it with. take a look at the distances below and decide whether i need a 3i hybrid or a 3 wood. i'm open to both suggestions and am debating which gap i need to fill; the 215-225 gap with the 3i Hybird, or the 250+ gap with the 3 wood when i want to "go for it" on a par 5.

Driver: 275-300+ (yes my driving game is all over the place Rolling Eyes )
5 Wood: 235-245
4i Hybrid: 195-205
5i: 185-190
6i: 175-180
7i: 165-170
8i: 150-160
9i: 140-145
PW: 125-135
Gap W: 115-120
SW: 95-105
60*: 70-80

thanks ladies and gents.

I recently added a 3i hybrid into my bag, and got rid of the 3 wood. My distances are a little farther than yours...my drives are usually 310-340. I had a gap between my 4 iron(230 yards) and my 5 wood(280 yards). I couldnt hit my 3 iron to save my life and that 50 yard gap was killer. I got the 3 metal to fill the gap, and love it. It makes long par 3's easier, instead of killing a 5 iron just choke down on the hybrid and relax. I have way better consistancy with the metal compared to the 3 wood, and use it way more than i ever used the wood it replaced. I run across more times i need a 240 club compared to a 300 club, at least on the courses i play. Hope that helps, my handicap dropped 2 strokes when i switched Smile

I guess it depends what type of golf courses you play. If you tend to play on courses over 6,500 yards, then maybe a wood/hybrid is in order. Or maybe you play a certain course a lot and need a certain club. Didn't Hogan say that at the Masters there were no 7 iron shots so he didn't carry one. I play a course with two 200yd par 3s, which is perfect for my 25* Bobby Jones hybrid.

I have a pretty similar set as you (even play the Cobrad LD F Speed driver -- 2007 model though), and I've actually have been thinking about a 64* wedge. I find I score best when I'm hitting a lot of up & downs and the 64 may help even more than my 58* lob.

Iluv5pam,
I vote you get the hybred to fill the shorter gap. I don't hit it as far as you but I think you will need the club to fill the short gap more often. You say your drives are all over the place so it sounds like getting a club to go for the green on par fives would only tempt you into bad course management. Make the right choice, don't go for the green and end up deeper in the woods.

I will have to agree with all of you. I just needed that confirmation. That long par 3, about 220-235 gap is killing me right now because I have to hit a pretty solid 4 iron hybrid to get there.

You guys are truly gentlemen and scholars.

Do what I did. Ditch the 5 wood and get a 4 wood and the hybrid.

You should do it. I don't regret it at all. Your a better player anyway. You need to give yourself those options.
