So the R11 irons were announced today. Longer, more accurate, straighter, yadda yadda yadda ----- 40* 9 iron. 40!!!! I mean, What the F? Basically everything's moved down another club. I know that's the way things are going, but i at least thought they would try something newer as far as technology is concerned. It's basically the same exact club as their other irons under the R11 name. *sigh*. i wonder how many sets i'll see come the end of august.

Quite a few I would imagine. It's getting harder and harder to find a set with a 44° 9 iron...even a few of the component companies have jumped on this stupid bandwagon.

My R9s are 41 degree.
So not too much of a change.

My R9 4 iron is 22 degrees, where the last 4 was a 21 degree

I did some research when I was looking at irons earlier, and these are my results. Interesting, unless you are going blade like... they are all 40 or 41... some worse. The Burner plus and di9s are distance clubs, they just really push the degrees.

The Taylormade Preferred Muscle Cavity Back clubs are an awesome set. That's precisely the type of clubs I use at the moment...a shallow cavity back. And I think I'm almost ready to upgrade to actual blades. Actually, I think I am ready. I'm just not ready to spend the money quite yet.

That said, my comparable set of Adams Idea Pro irons also have a 42* 9i.

I tested out some blades and forged cb, and i hit them surprisingly well.

I might get some Muscle Cavity, the halfway point.

But i am playing good with my R9s, i guess by the time I need to upgrade, I should have some more money. Thinking positive of course

If the 9i is at 40*, that would theoretically put their PW at 44*, which fits nicely into the 4* gaps I have in my wedges (48*, 52*, 56*, 60*).

My Cobra S2's are a degree stronger (9i = 39*, PW = 43*).

I have the same wedge gaps 48*, 52* and 56* Eidolons. My Cobra FP's have a 45* PW which I'm using as my 9 iron, 9 for 8, 8 for 7 and 7 for 6...then it's Baffler Hybrids. Funny, I want to get new clubs but with "old" lofts, not the modern lofts.

I look at the PW that is included with most sets as another iron. If you look at the club design, and compare it to an actual wedge, it's nothing like it.

If I hadn't found the sweet deal on the S2's that I did, I was planning on doing a "short set" of irons, eliminating those that I didn't need/want. I don't need all 8 irons. My plan had been to have the set customized for loft to match the 4* gaps I have now in my wedges for 4-6 irons.

I've actually started shopping for a short set of blades. I need a 5i through Pi, but all of the sets seem to have all 8 clubs. I only want/need 6. I want to ease my way into them like I eased my way into my muscle-cavity backs that I'm using now. Start with the P club and then work my way down.

Thats a good idea, easing into them
If only you could buy one at a time too, ease into the bankruptcy

Bryan, you can buy individual clubs if you order them and don't buy "off the rack". It's not any more expensive. They just break down into per club pricing. At least, the titleists weren't.

birdieXris is right. You can get single irons/custom sets from TGW.com, and golfsmith (I think). My local golf shop will order any current model from the manufacturer to the exact spec you want.

I'll have to look into that. I looked at TGW and Golfsmith last night. The clubs I want are the Adams Idea Pro Black Musclebacks. The only problem is, I've been able to find them cheaper elsewhere for the whole set than I have seen them for even half a set on TGW or Golfsmith.

Well u could always get the set cheaper and sell.the clubs you don't want on eBay.

lol...I never sell clubs. You just never know when a nephew or a friend's kid needs a set for cheap:) (or free in the case of my nephew)
