I didn't pick up a golf club today. Had a big job interview for a transfer/promotion to Phoenix. It was three grueling hours, but it went extremely well. Wish me luck.

Hope it went well, Bryan!

Sunday i was supposed to play but it was just too wet. I'm all for a little rain practice, but this was the kind of rain where you're soaked to the core by the 2nd shot on number 1.

Instead, i waited a little and had some chats with Golfnutjim and my fiancée until it let up to a light drizzle and hit the range quick. Horrible. I'm still so incredibly flat and laid off in the back swing. I then went home and starting about 8pm i practiced keeping my hands and clubhead in line on the takeaway. It seemed to go well last night. I'm going to hit some balls today to make sure i have this engrained by next weekend.

Worked on the driving range the last two days. Trying to get that feel back with the irons. I'm hitting a lot of them fat. It's frustrating to hit a 280 yard drive to the 120 mark right in front of the green only to duff the approach 60 yards.

I was pulling my irons severely a few weeks ago. I had it corrected for a few rounds where I was playing extremely well, and then I started pushing it. So now I'm trying to find that happy medium, but what's actually happening is that (when I make solid contact) I'm spraying my iron shots about 5* right or left. The result is a LOT of penalty strokes, and those hurt.

That said, I hit a green from 200 out yesterday. Was a great feeling especially since I know I had two longer clubs I could have used.

I really need some time on the chipping green, though. That and the irons is where the most of my work is needed. I'm actually hitting my driver and my putter as well as I've ever hit them right now, but when I need foru strokes to get on the green from inside 150, things don't end well.

Today i practiced hard. Also yesterday night and i got my S#!t sorted out. I've been using the V1 app for android recently too and it's allowed me to visually see and map out what i need to do. My hands are higher, i'm more on plane and i'm WAAAAAAAAY less laid off in the swing.

Finally, no more over the top move for the misses. My dispersion is 5-10 yards on either side instead of 30 yards left. FIIIINNNALLLLY! ugh. let's see how it holds up in my head and on the course this weekend.

It looks good, although, different clubs make it harder for me to compare, being a newbie.
Hope it works out, you got big things coming your way soon with the WAHC.

I must say one thing, just seeing a video, puts a body to the poster, I wish more of us were closer to each other.

I really REALLY want to make it to the WAHC (sp?) next year, so I have the chance to meet you and more of the cool oob-ers we have out there.

It's not all that different between my 4iron and my driver. A little flatter, but the main thing is the clubhead in relation to the hands at halfway back, at the top, and halfway to impact. On the new swing, it's about a foot or more farther toward the inside, which golfnut jim will tell you, is amazing for my swing. It's crazy flat normally.

I have barely practiced this year...usually I go to the range almost as much as I play, but not this year. However, I have been running A LOT. I have been slowly ramping up for a local 10 mile race all summer, the race is in 12 days. I have gradually gone from 2-3 mile runs to 3-5 mile runs daily as well as one long run per week (last one was 7+ miles). I take one day off a week to recover.

I have to say, all the running has gotten my lower body extremely stable and I really feel like I can coil much better and I can hold my finish all day long. I've gained about 5 yards on my irons and have a lot more spin too. I've gone from about a 22 at the beginning of the year to just over a 20 now. And 8 of the 10 scores counting to my handicap are from my last 10 rounds so I should keep moving down, barring a catastrophe.

I think you're onto something with the fitness thing for sure.

When its not 100+ here, I like to walk. I feel a little more tired when I walk, but i feel a lot looser in my strokes.

The good thing is, when I do use a cart, i feel like i'm really fresh, i just have to keep limber. I feel like if I am not tired from walking, my strokes are fresh and sharp and my scores (usually) show that.

If I wasn't working night and day I'd be doing a lot more bike riding too, which I also love, good for the knees and i am sure will help.

Good luck with the big run coming up. And keep plugging on that handicap. Its great to see your last 10-15 are your best scores.

went across the street to the soccer fields tonight and tried to chip about a hundred balls into a bucket from different distances. I know. It's a weird practicing technique. But I'm finding that I have lost the ability to land my chip shots exactly where I want them to land. At the start, I think I shot about 20 without getting a single one in the bucket. By the end, though, I was landing about one in three in there with most of them hitting the lip or a couple of inches below the lip.

Trying to chip it into the soccer net from 50 yards out would have been a better practice.

That's an awfully big target. I like the bucket idea myself. When my grandfather taught me, we would use an old wash basin from about 40 or so yards. Boy did that thing make a racket.

Wouldn't the ball go through the net?

I didn't dare go that far out. That 40-70 yard shot is a tough one to practice. But the problem I'm afraid of is that since this is a soccer field that gets regular use, I most certainly did not want to lose any balls. I could just see myself skulling one 50 yards past the bucket into never-never land, and then some poor 10 year old kid breaks his ankle on it the next day. I watched a soccer game earlier this summer where a 12-year old kid broke his ankle. I don't want to be responsible for that.
