New to the board. Live in Houston. I'm looking to get back into the game.
I played some growing up, but never consistently or very good. Graduated from college about 10 years ago and started playing more with some friends. Started out as the "not keeping score....just here to have fun and drink beer" type of player. One of my friends played golf in college and started helping me. The bug bit me, I got some better equipment and even got to the point of practicing once a week. Went from not keeping score to breaking 100, and shooting in the mid to low 90's once I was practicing. All time low of 90 (yipped a 3 footer to break 90).
Then I got married, more wrapped up in work (self-employed), had a kid, and all that jazz. I love to play, but I don't get to play nearly as often as I'd like, and I defintely don't practice anymore. Putting me back to being happy if I break 100.
My short term goal is to start playing at least twice per month and hitting at least 1 bucket of balls per week. I feel like if I do this I can get back down to the low 90's fairly quickly. I'm a good ball striker, and have decent control. I simply lack consistentcy.
Once I'm consistently shooting in the low 90's again, and I'm back into a good groove with my swing, I plan on taking a couple of lessons. At that point I would like to buy a new set of irons (since mine are over 10 years old). Between the lessons, updated equipment, and regular practice and play I feel I can break into the 80's.
Once I'm shooting in the 80's I would like to join the HGA.
That's probably more information than needed in the introduction thread, but I'm hoping that being a member of an online community like this one will help me achieve my goals.
