Can someone help me with the correct ruling here.
Yesturday I was playing a par 3 190 yards with a 100yard carry over long grass which is red staked
My tee shot went in the weeds I couldn't find my ball.
Do I go back to the tee box and re hit 3 off the tee or as its red stakes I can drop no closer to the hole with a penalty ???

Red stakes indicate a lateral water hazard. When you hit into a lateral hazard you have 4 options: re-hit from the previous spot, drop within 2 club lengths, no nearer the hole, of the point where your ball last crossed the hazard line, drop within 2 club lengths on the opposite side of the hazard, no nearer the hole and lastly, go back as far as you want on a line created by the hole and the point where you ball last crossed the hazard, no nearer the hole. All these actions have a 1 stroke penalty.

The last option generally does not work with a lateral hazard (imagine a river running along the side of the hole). The line from the hole to the point where you last crossed the hazard line typically is in the river or on the other side (which often you can't access). Hence the 2 club length rule.

Warning: Rules Snobs typically think they know all the rules. I am a Rules Snob. You may want to check the Rules of Golf.

You said it went into the weeds and you couldn't find it. I read this as if it is not "virtually certain" the ball actually is in the water hazard. In such a case it is a lost ball and you should treat it as such (meaning: distance + stroke, play it from the spot whre you played the original from - in your case hit for 3 from the tee).

If, howver, it is cerrain the ball is in the hazard, see above.

Strange situation that you have to hit across a lateral water hazard on a par3 just to reach the green...

I agree google hudson Golf Club Wi 9th hole Par 3 200 yds elevated tee shot with trees on either side dips into a gully full of brush (no Water) so where ball enters brush is 111 yds from green (red tees) behind so I would think you would drop forward of red tee box not improving lie and now playing 3rd with 111 yds to go than going back to the blue tee box.
It is such a gray area rule that every player has a different ruling crazy
